Everyone else.. >Waves Hand< You didn't see anything...

Not everyone is rich. Some are just keen and smart on deals and when and where to buy.

I live in south central Los Angeles, have a modest home in the hood, own one car and just save my omey when i want to buy something. Craig list is a good place to look and you can also hit estate sales. Because when the rich go down they go down hard baby ... lol.

I am no where near being rich i have alot of school debt and will be getting married and getting my own place after. Most of the time i pay for new fish by trading old fish in. I've owned all different types of fish and i know whats worth money around my area and i get good trade value cuz i know most of the store owners. I'm currenytly in the process of trading in most of my fish for a wolf fish and maybe a lung fish both of which when big are worth big bucks. I've been keeping fish for about 5 years and i list all my favorite fish when my tank broke when i wasnt home so for the past 2 years ive been buying and trading fish trying to find the fish that i will keep for many years. For me fish keeping is like getting married, I'm just looking for the right fish that i coneect with.

a good place to buy new tanks is glass cages .com they have some good prices on new tanks. and shipping is resonable if there is a show near you.

Not rich here either, but then again I don't really own any true monster tanks (biggest so far has been a 120). I buy equipment used and a lot of my stuff is DIY which saves me a bunch. I'm reasonably patient and responsible with my purchases so I haven't had to go through rapid, unexpected tank upgrades.

It seems to me that a number of people on this site get obsessed, spend beyond their means and then get bored and burnt out. Many of the comments here are just "oohing" and "aahing" over how much money others are spending, which unfortunately, doesn't really promote financial responsibility.

I wish Natives were free here in Nevada. With all the legal loopholes, permits, and red tape you have to jump through to have a native tank with something other than minnows or chubs, tropical fish are much cheaper and easier. :(

what they don't know won't hurt em. what are they gonna do come in to your house and search your fishtanks? if you're consistently buying feeders for native fish just say you have a jag cichlid or something haha...

i know some people play by the rules on that kind of thing but that's absolutely ridiculous to have to get permits for fish you can go catch

I agree it sucks, and doesn't really make any sense at all. I'm not about to go do it though. All it takes is getting caught 1 time and you're facing charges and can have your right to fish or hunt revoked for life. Eventually I'll get all the permits and stuff needed to do it, I do want a native tank someday.

As an FYI, state and federal agents do patrol online forums looking for cases of illegal fish posession and transport. There have been users on this forum busted for it. Might keep that in mind when making comments like that. :grinno:
