Hes in 125g now. i hadnt been in the lfs in months and they said someone brought him in and he had been there for a while. poor guy. i dont know what they kept him in before that
Yea I always have to buy the huge fish in the small tanks. I was at petsmart the other day and they had a massive pacu in a 5 gallon tank. I bought him and gave him to my LFS for free bcuz they have a pond. It was just too disgusting to see him unable to move even a tiny bit.

RIGHT!!?? You know it pisses me off that Petsmart even sells Pacu ... Those get HUGE ...and normally the people selling them and the people buying them have no clue to just how big they get .. So people end up with a giant fish in a small tank...Leading to people tossing them in lakes :WTF:etc... Makes me sick
You see It's kinda like crack did to Pookie/In New Jack except when I cross over ain't no coming back" - Christopher Wallace
The first line of that lyric perfectly explains the allure of fish keeping. I currently have 4 tanks running with 5 more and two racks waiting in the wings. Once my garage is insulated and the additional electrical outlets are put in I'm going to be ready to go. I agree with the rest of you on being called a hoarder it's such a dirty word and shouldn't be used when you’re keeping your fish happy and healthy.

I got my three pacu from petsmart, the lady looked at me like I was crazy and said you know these get real big don'tcha ? I said yep and can I get one of those monster ID sharks too.
Big is relative to the fish, 24 inches although big, it's still manageable and it's not like they will grow that big in 2 days, more like 2-5 years depending on the pacu. Oscar's get what 12 inches, some 18 inches ? Six more inches wow, stop the press. Why doesn't anyone say petsmart should not sell oscars ? One 24 inch pacu does not need a 3000 gallon tank. If one 18 inch oscar or two can be ok in a 75, 125, etc then so can a pacu. If you ever seen the way pacu swim, they are very adaptable and can easily turn in small spaces, better even than an oscar. Having more room is always a plus, however, it's also a personal preference. Pacu are some of the most hardy and easiest fish to care for. I hand feed mine and pet them, they are around 5-6 inches and some of my favorites. The arowana doesn't like them because they make him jump and hit the lid with their skittish movements, so I'm moving them to their own tank.
