I'm exactly the same way. I see a lot of people making mistakes at the local pet stores but I don't feel it's my place to go up to them and start lecturing them. When I see a person with a Fluval nano tank in one hand and a bag of Oscars in the other, I can only shake my head and hope they like the fish enough to read up on them once they get home. I spoke to one of my co-workers (a vet who's been working with fish for about 20 years), and told her how frustrated I get when I see people making BAD buying decisions at the LFS. She agreed but said... at least it's a fish that person is buying, and not a dog. ITA about that.
