Argentea Temperament?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A 125 is a bit small for more than 1, or a compatible pair of them. I had a group of 6 that whittled down to 2 in a 150. At 6" the male started to try to kill everything else in the tank, he ended up alone in a 55.
He had a young 10" managuense pinned in a corner.

Or can just have one in your 125 and put a bunch of tree branches from the backyard and 3D BG.

Im overstocked and well fed but not overfed to football size lol, plenty of viejas, honestly not much aggression unless its feeding time, my red tex is the most aggressive. Id def say my argentea was the least in comparison to the others. Zonatus, hartwegi, breidohri, fenstratus, synspilum. But it coulda just been that paticular one as its the only one iv ever had, gotten at 4" with my zo @ 4", when the zo got to 8" the argentea had only gained an inch and was skiddish. Added my breidohri 2 months ago at 4" with 10" zo and all others close in size, the breidohri aggressivly competes for food with the large fish is already 6" and has carved out his own spot in the tank, this is how I have noticed that most of these ca guys are but maybe my argentea was just a curd,

Mine relentlessly tries to attack and pester other fish even though he loses. He's almost got himself killed a few times so he's in a 55 gallon by himself now.

I was just messing with some of the Vieja comm tank guys, I love those tanks. :)
I mean, let's face it, there's a lot of variables with compatibility. Individual personality, size and attitude of tank mates, size of tank itself, layout, stocking levels, etc. I started a whole thread on it a while back and there was lots of good input.

I had mine until I sold it at maybe around 11". He always did fine with non-cichlids and some cichlids. I had him with several kinds of fish at different times that he did fine with (bichirs, silver dollars, Uaru, female Festae, African Pike, etc...). He never touched small dithers. Before I sold him, I had him in a setup that I miss, which was him in a 75 gallon with a school of Boesmani Rainbows.

True, I have had Parrots that would not live in a community and others that don't have a problem with it. I have noticed that if they grow up in a community at a very young age they have a better chance of doing well in a community.

I guess worse case is the Argentea starts showing aggression and I separate it.
