Armatus checked out today.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
dang sucks... but it was worth the three years you had him :)
seems the final outcome for these beast is die around 3 year mark unfortunately.
that was my problem, is having pregnant rays and putting dividers with armatus = crashes.

Good luck man!!

Personally if I were you, I'd put the lince with Rays and perhaps the pair of doradoes too since they would probably might not have too much aggression in there. Lince cats here cost upwards of 3-4k usd easily more than bd stingrays. Best of luck bro, I don't know if putting in a crazy killer tanzie would really help the situation. Might just end up with more casualties. If you put in 3-4 ATF together, that seems like it would disperse aggression more but possibly need a really big passive dither..

4K gallons sounds like a lot, but I love my filters..... Probably 1.5K of that is filtration - example 750 gallon tank has a 180 tied to it. Filtration consists of almost 600 gallons. My 8x3 360 has a 240 gallon sump. So while it sounds like lots of room it definitely isn't 4K gallons of display tank......

Armatus seem hardy up to about 2' then we all seem to loose them. :(

That's huge and impressive filtration system you got there. Barring any unforeseen situations, I would think most of your fishes are enjoying the adequate space and good waters.

I lost my Armatus at about that size too - though not due to aggression. :(

Thanks man! Appreciate the feedback!

I have the monster Tanzy, 2 slightly smaller Tanzys, a smaller Vatf, and a Gatf that falls between the Vatf and Ts. IF I was going to try any ATF in the big tank I think I'd dump them all in at the same time, but like you said, kinda scary to consider the outcome may be more losses.

I do have a huge Brycon and Clown Knife, so there are a few peacekeeping possibilities, also have a pair of black Aros that could go in IF I moved the remaining Armatus.....

If it ain't broke don't fix it right? That being said you might wanna leave the atf where they are. Your only problem seems to be the armatus, I've always seen them do well with rays personally, you say you have some tanks with just rays, I can tell you don't want to accept the fact that it's seeming like you have to part with the armatus or lose more fish, so why not try him in a tank with just rays? I'd would say if you do add the atf add all of them, it may help and disperse aggression, or it could turn for the worse and they can gang up on him or he can kill them off one by one kind of thing, or he could fight to the death with one or some and lose multiple fish at once. It's up to you on whether you think the risk is worth it. Personally I would just get rid of the armatus, it seems once they are larger they only do well in extremely large set ups. As for adding all the wolves, I think they'd be fine goin by what you've said in the past. I wouldn't say add the aros, I don't think they'd fare well, if anything add them to the tatf and wolves and move the clown back to the 750. I feel the main problem needs to be solved before anything else is moved around, and the main issues is the armatus. Once that's out the way, you can try the atf and other wolves in their which going off of what you say sounds like it'd work.

Sorry Al. Still have my lone survivor. Sold one and other committed suicide last year. Be 3 years first of July and he is a beast. No tankmates allowed other than rays. He inhaled a 5" round Blacberry SD few weeks back. Nice expensive feeder and couple weeks ago I tried to add a 8-9 Vulture Cat. He had it half way down his throat before it got to bottom. Luckily I saved him with a few puncture wounds with no Vitals damaged.

Vulture with rays? You're braver then I am.... lol. I've heard they eventually give into the sweet tender flesh of the rays disk - per Jeff Rapps himself. Sucks cause they are really nice looking, manageable in terms of max size, and aren't driftwood till feeding time - at least what I've gathered, never kept due to above advice.....

I think I'll end up moving captain angry pants (alpha Armatus) to the 8x3. IF he does end up shanking my Lince and ends up fatal I'd never forgive myself......

I'm sorry for your loss, Al! It's depressing, but don't quit! I'm thinking of growing some out again. It's about time
