Armatus checked out today.

What a turd of a weekend.

Picked up a 21" Black Aro off the floor yesterday....... Fish jerky.

Yes, the tank has already changed with the passing of the last Armatus. The Dorado are eating like I've never seen before.

I was going to drop the big Tanzy in this weekend but chickened out due to the net. I've seen several fish here bite right through the rubber net, given the tank is so high and the crazy teeth made it seem like a horrible idea, so going to wait to get a rubber coated net instead of pure rubber so it won't bite through.... May end up waiting till after the vacation in a few weeks but am concerned the Dorado may become comfy at the top of the totem pole. Not sure what to do???

I say stick to your plan and wait. So you can safely transfer the atf.

Black arowana jumped out? Damn that sucks.. That's how I lost my super red arowana as well. Looks like the doradoes are already out showing their true colors. Interested to see the future of this tank though.

Sometimes me and my wife (avid corydoras keeper) have these discussions on what fish to let go and what to keep when the time comes. :)

No matter how big the tank or resources we have, there might be some reasons that will force us to either abandon or downgrade the hobby.

Those of us who keep different species of monsters will probably need to face the consequences of them killing each other. :(

A big tank with few monsters might worked. A big tank JDM packed with monsters may also work.

Decorations to create niche territories. Alphas and peacekeepers. The list goes on.

It is a constant challenge to us hobbyists.

DB, we continuously learning and inspired by your tanks and fishes. I am pretty sure you will work it out and put the right balance back soon.

I agree with all the points said, Even with extremely large swimming pool sized setups here in china, we have plenty of stories of fatalities between monster fish. The other day I just heard about a goonch ripping an Armatus in half from behind while they were tankmates for almost two years.

Are you kidding me!?!?!

Not sure WTF is going on but Iguaza is checking out now. Had a collision or a scuffle with something - mouth smashed in, upper lip almost tore off.

Saw the Lince chasing my Brycon last night but don't have enough time to just sit and watch these stupid things.

Never been this frustrated with this tank or the fish I keep in it.

I think I need a means of monitoring the tank. Something that records in a 48-72 hour loop onto a hard drive or something, that way I could just scroll through past video and nail down the troublemaker so I can get something that will complete the circle of life for said trouble maker. Then I think once all the toothy fish have killed each other maybe I'll just call it a day and get some Aros. Characins are now on my S#@t list.

Multiple mature/maturing predators together.... We love these things but lots of risk involved. Maybe you need another peacekeeper like another brycon or lemon fin.

I had a vendor order some odoe for me but they came in very small. Picked up 5 and already lost 3 to the vatf.

Sorry to hear, a lot of losses this year for you. I think a way to record and catch what happens would be beneficial. I remember your clown knife was your peacekeeper for this tank, maybe he needs to be reintroduced? Maybe you should just stick to a few, start narrowing down the stock size to what you like most, which would be really hard for me with the fish you have. As KNH said, we know there is a lot of risks involved in the fish we try to comm, you've done something few have dared to do in the past and have lasted until now, that's an accomplishment in itself.

Never knew Lince could be so deadly based on their cute looks - my thoughts were catfishes will either eat something whole or won't be bothered to harass it. :(

Perhaps you really need to capture the culprit(s) on camera to get to the bottom of this killing mystery.

I do hope it is not one of your Hoplias that is doing all this.
