Aro comm needs nerves of steel?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes, do that, ad more plant stuff..

With me the trick is to leave some small light at night and keep them fed ( you don't want the added stress of hunger )

I would not worry and would let things flow......

I currently have 5 Black Aros in my 240. I know it's too smal...working on getting a 700 gallon before the end of the year..

First, I have 3 of them in there, they grew from about 12" to about 14" in a month.

Out of the 3, one of them was getting beat up constantly, but he hold his own ground just fine, other than a few torn fins.

During this time, I leave light on during night time and leave a blue moonlight at night.

I kept them well fed every day.

After a week, all 3 of them were getting along...just fine...I was planning on putting my Lei in the big tank, but I was afraid with 4, the aggresion will start again especially from the Lei..The lei is only 8"

So I added 2 more a month later...these two were pretty small, about 11" or so..

First couple of days, the smaller ones were being bullied..then it stops. A week later, the smaller of the 2 smaller ones was beat up pretty bad...So I separate him as of last night...

But, the other smaller one is getting along with the 3 larger ones..

In conclusion, Fish can sense weakness, they will bully the weakest one of the pack.

Keep them stress free by keeping the water clean, well fed and have a enough get away space. My tank is nicely landscape with tall fake plants and large driftwood.

Keeping PH somewhat within the 6 ish range helps to calm them down as well..

As long as your fish can hold his ground and you have a back up plan, I don't see why you can't have a community tank..

what i found was as soon as the tail was shreded the others seamed to home in on the shreded tail

some people told me it was because my tank as to big and the aros needed to be packed in more

one of my aros is still getting beat up but he seams to now hang in mid water keeping out of the others way

its not a nice thing to watch them fighting its all a case of how far you are willing to let it go before you step in

I lost one aro.:(

It was the weirdest thing,I try to scare them away from the front before opening it to feed but they know where the food comes from now and they crowd around it.One jumped out during feeding and smacked his little head on the shelves next to the tank.I plan to replace him,but I am wondering how important that I replace him soon to keep my numbers high and aggression low?Or is the extra one probably not going to be making that big of a difference?I may get two or three more but I'm not sure when possibly next week.

The rest of my aros have just about stopped fighting,I havnt seen a single nip all day and only a very few last night (their second night).Am I to understand that they may very well start up again in the future?

They take pellets but I think I got a size to big (kikari bio-gold medium), and some have a hard time with it...... should I break the pellets up?

6 is allright Senor...I would say you don't need to replace it.

adding another maybe a waste of time i think 5 or more will be enought

i had 11 in my tank at 1 time then dropped it down to 9 then 7 now im at 6 and a african aro which has taken over the tank which has probably stopped them fighting they are all packed in one corner when the african uses the rest of the tank

I will say learn from this mistake...although it's not a very plesant one....:(

As for the pellet, try getting a new pack of the mini one and keep this medium size in due time which I will say in another 1 months plus down the road they will be ready for these medium size pellets.

As for replacing the lost silver.... I wun say no nor yes for it's all up to you. If you think your current pieces are doing well keep them as they are now and wait till you are ready to throw in another 2 or 3 later part of the month. Sharing my bit of exprience with my silver com is that I dun get them together in a single purchase. Infact I stretched it over a month and so far they are doing fine.:)
