larger fish , such as arowana, oscars and gar are resilient. if he gets over the illness, he will start eating and they can go for awhile without a meal. i just got a young , 7 -inch gar that would not eat for about 2 weeks. he finally started taking silver sides and is doing OK.
Thanks for optimism... to be honest this happened to me once before.. and it was a long time too.. my other arow many years ago fasted and finally did eat again.. so yes i am hoping.. glad for your success with the gar... i am going to try silversides again tommorrow. after we hit the stores.. :D

thanks ... are the ones from bait shop clean... because i have lots of bait shops around here... i am at the end of things i can try..thanks...

Yes, Liz, bait shops sell them. If you buy more than a couple, store them in a fridge if possible. They like cooler temps. When getting ready to feed, soak them in cold water for several minutes. They typically void themselves when submerged. You can also squeeze the poop out of them but thats sorta disgusting. It won't harm a fish either way so long as they are from a worm farm. I would not pick them out of the earth because of pesticides and man made fertilizers.

I broke fasts for both my RTG and my little red aro using earthworms. I brought it up for discussion on an arowana forum I belong to and I got lots of feedback from some very experienced aro/stingray keepers that they are totally fine for aros, just not as their sole/primary food source.
