I don't understand... are you saying that because we cannot provide lakes, we should give up and keep them in a 180 or so, since no matter what we provide, it's still smaller than what they'd experience in nature?

Or are you saying that I exaggerated my tank size? Have you seen an aro in a tank only twice its size? It looks really cramped.
Are you saying unless we keep em in super tanks we should just not bother with Arow because it's cruel.
I'm just poking a little fun that all, i think that's the biggest minimum recommendation i've seen. LOL
3 x the length of the fish, 1 times the width is plenty big enough.

So 90% of SA aro keepers are keeping them in tanks way to small

State what type of aro you keep and the tank size you keep your aro in none of this I will upgrade when I need to rubbish as most massive tanks never happen

The amount of silver and black aros sold I would expect a lot of 24 inch + aros in big tanks to be on this list

Let's have a list of people keeping aros in the right size tank

1. Me 8x6x3 Asian chilli red

I hope it's ok to ask in this thread but would an Asian arowana be ok in a 6' long x 4' wide x 2' indoor pond? I've seen lots of posts above talking about 8'+ but everyone seems to be concentrating on silvers, does the same apply to an Asian?

It depends which type of Asian aro

Reds grow to 3ft and golds about 2ft

So yes that should be fine

I would say a red tail gold or a cross back would be fine in a 8x3

I would say a red would be fine in a 8x4

If still interested to see what everyone is keeping silver or blacks in as I have seen lots of people give out tank sizes but I didn't no that so many people had 10x4 tanks on the forum lol

4x3=12, and 4x1=4. 12x4, and then a height of about 3', although 30" would work.

8x3x2 is a 360 not a 250. A 8x2x2 is a 240. There is alot of varied opinions of this subject which gets asked all the time on what size tank for adult arowanas. im surprised there isnt a sticky on this subject yet. I would say a 480 8x4x4. I got rid of my Silver that was 3 feet if not a little more. And he was in a 360 and had plenty of room in there and is a big enough home for them. just felt bad for it feeling it needed a bigger home. I gave it to the boston aquirium when i lived in that area.

xD That's where I get to work with aros, I'm a volunteer there.

I know we have lots and lots of SA aro keepers

So please share your tank sizes as I think it's wrong to give out tank sizes like 10x4 unless you are keeping your aros in that tank size yourselfs

1000s of silver and black aros are sold in the US every year but we dont see many above 3ft or even people that have kept one silver or black aro for more than 4-5 years so I was wondering what happens to the 1000s of aros sold each year

Is it a case the the aro gets to big to keep if that if the case then we would see hundred in zoos or public aquariums

I don't think many are returned to LFS as they don't have the tank space and there is not a big Market for 3ft silver aros

Any imput would be good as if people love aros as much as I do I would like to see some picture of aros that have been taken care of for 5 year + and above 3ft

I had a black aro that I kept for 7 years and that was 30inch + so it can be done you just don't see that many on the forum

Not true. In most cases a place like that will only take in an animal if it's something they're looking for. If zoos and aquariums took in every animal someone tried to donate, they'd have waaay too many animals to take care of.

I assume what probably happens is that people don't upgrade their tanks and they end up with a dead fish.

these fish can get well over 4 feet long so id say your gonna need a big ass tank

This is a myth, do a little research and get back to reality.
