Sad day. Lost my schoutdeni last night. Not sure why. She was acting fine yesterday. I'm think for some reason she had some how sucked in air and couldn't release it. I found her floundering at the surface. I gently tried to burp her when I found her this morning. A little air bubble or two came out but it was to late she went lifeless a few minutes later. By burping her I mean I held her near the bottom of the tank and gently massaged the air bubble. I am really broken up by this as I didn't or couldn't do anything for her.
Sorry to hear about your puffer

Yeah it's a tough one. Like I said not really sure what happened or why. She was fine Saturday morning we did our water change she acted normal during and after that. She ate normally, she had 5 pond snails that I breed. Well 4 that I dumped in front of her and 1 that was on one of the floating plants. But that's nothing new either I'd put them on the plants for her to hunt at least once a week. I'm guessing it wasn't old age as I've only had her about 2 years and she was young when I got her.

Awesome. How fast do they reproduce and what’s the growth rate?
Ok so I got 10 total 3 males and 7 females. Within a week two of the females were berried. That was late December. By middle of February the babies were an inch plus long. The females stay hidden as much as possible the males are rough. If I was truly trying to do this on a scale to feed something I would sort the babies as the older ones eat the new ones. I've not seen it but with the large amount of "subadults" and juveniles I am only seeing a couple babies now. I'm using a 40b right now. I would probably keep the 40b and get a couple 10g tanks. As soon as I saw babies I'd pull them to a 10g. Depending on how big you wanted them obviously you would need larger grow outs. They seem to grow slowly at first but in reality they double in size weekly I'm sure if you fed them more they would grow faster. I'd say with my current growth rate, 6 months they would be adults capable of breeding. Most of my babies from the first two batches are around 2" now. If you are sure of the sex I'd start with 1 male and 3 or 4 females in a 40b. I would also recommend glass tanks not totes to breed these to hard to catch and see from top down. You absolutely need hiding places I use cut up pieces of PVC of various sizes. I have never seen an adult eat a baby but my guess is they would, will and do. As a matter of fact I've never seen a baby eat a baby but some thing is controlling the population of new babies in there. I'm going to pull all the young and take them to the lfs for whatever credit I can get. I'll keep the adults for now just to see if I get a new crop of babies like I did when I started it up. Females continue to be berried so babies are going somewhere I see very few.

Awesome. I’ll have to try these some day. Always wanted to grow my own feeders. Thank you!

Well while the video uploads figure I'd put up a few pics. I tested all the water today and these are some of the nitrate test I find one well two strange.

So from left to right, tap 0ppm,pea puffer weekly 75% w/c against card looked like 5ppm, next 75g of randomness w/c every 4-5 weeks also looked lighter somewhere 20 to 40ppm, last two are the 8 gallon betta tank did it twice because it showed 0ppm. The colors look darker in the pic then in reality.
I tested everything before WC except the pond I just started wc as it takes forever to refill.

Some more of tiny. He's growing about 1/2" per month. I probably could feed him more/daily but he's healthy and super happy.
Glass is dirty sorry.

Wow it's been a while since I've updated this thread. I guess I've been updating the individual threads or not...... Anyway got a step closer to this fish room thing being more organized.
