afaik, asians were illegal. but i kno they're available, if you ask the right questions and are willing to pay megabucks
I think I know the story that your talking about. The lady got caught with 51 fsih in an apron that was specially made to smuggle the fish. All of the fish were put down. It doesn't say what type of fish they were but the picture that came with the story was of 2 pleco (no idea what variety though) They also searched her house and found another 5 fish. There was another person caught smuggling asian arowana into Australia in March.
That suggests that it could be illegal to bring them into Australia.
I went to a fish store today and they had 5 5-7 inch asian arowana for sale. All of them over AUS$2300. I talked to one of the guys who works there and he said that it's illegal to bring them into Australia.
Still, I'm going to try and find something for sure from the gov. But it's not looking good
