I dont know what ARTC appetites are like, but im pretty sure a South american RTC will gobble him up and try to eat your dovii, and probably lose

most probably might go the other way around.

Sorry to chime in on the no-side but the asian will require about 500 gal tank if you want to keep it as a lone show-fish. It may be possible to keep it with other cats if you have a system in the tens of thousands of gallons but still unlikely.
I dont have cats as aggressive as asian rtc but when you have fish over 2 feet long you will be lucky to mix them at all, even placid types need some territory and in a 200 gal i would advise looking at something like a lima shovel nose and some of the larger synodontis types (10-12in).
Remember-the shopkeeper is not your freind, most will say yes to fill the till and if you ask the same one the same questions on different visits you will probably get conflicting answers.

Asian red tail cats are meany's. Nuff said

Id find it very unlikely that even 5% of users on MONSTER FISH KEEPERS have the ability to correctly house a RTC but the sad truth is they are sold @ LFS and are not going away, people enjoy them and they are awesome.

Give advice with out juding him. There is a very good chance he is 12-15 years old and has no idea what he's getting himself into, so why get all pissed off about it? at least he's asking for help.. relax

Hey Marc.
Your going to need a MUCH bigger tank than your 55 for either your Dovii or your ARTC buddy.
You'd only be adding to your troubles by purchasing a RTC as well.
All scenario's will end up with an eaten Dovii or a dead RTC Im afraid.
Read up on the fish you're purchasing my man, unfortunalety not all LFS dealers are reputable or know what the heck they're talking about.
Good luck & feel free to PM for info.

i have kept a artc and red devil successfully for about a year and a half and then did the right thing by moving them to their own separate tanks. i dont think my artc enjoyed the move, he died about 2 months after the move

To sum up the asian red tail, is evil it will kill anything regardless of whether it wants to eat it. this is from personal experience. i personally would consider taking it back to the shop!

it will get huge as already stated like the rtc. although if i was to pick a monster cat i would choose the rtc as they are very greedy but at least in the huge pond you could have some other fish that would stay alive.

I would use the tank to raise the dovii .

I think this guy really needs help to understand what he is getting into, What I dont
understand is why when new people come into this hobby half of you guys will only
insult these people, It is our responsibility to help anyone here, tell them the truth
and hope these animals find a new home. A combination like this will never work,
im sorry to say, i understand you have a 200 also keep the dovii and look to rehome
your others, look for smaller species and of course we can always help you to find
a more suitable and responsible decision.
Best of luck

I'm sorry. I find this quite offensive.

I'm 14. I've been keeping fish for a few years now and know a lot more than most adults. There is no reason to single out this specific age group where 90% of the people working at places like petco and petsmart have absolutely no knowledge about fish and will try to grow an anemone in a tank with an rtc and guppies.
