Asian Red Tailed Catfish? Is it ok with a RTC?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Woah what? Haha. I don't want to keep an rtc. I was planning on building a 5000 gallon pond for one...But my dad wouldn't let me. :(

The largest fish I'd keep in a 200 gallon tank is a few red finned tin foil barbs. :D

I'm sorry. I find this quite offensive.

I'm 14. I've been keeping fish for a few years now and know a lot more than most adults. There is no reason to single out this specific age group where 90% of the people working at places like petco and petsmart have absolutely no knowledge about fish and will try to grow an anemone in a tank with an rtc and guppies.

If you read my post I was actually sticking up for you, after 7-8 people were being dicks towards you. Whatever do your thing, from your past posts you ask for advice and do your own thing regardless.

LOL Mudslinger isn't the OP.

Another empthatic vote for ditching the big cats, keeping the Dovi, and a couple syndontis my LFS gets 7-8" synos every now and again from people with small tanks, and sells them cheaper at the same price as the juvies....

I'll apologize for these people bro, as you can see a combination like this

no matter how much they know they are still childish at heart,
What is the largest tank you currently own
There in a 55 for now then I have a 200, after they out grow that they will be upgraded to a 800 gallon! I may make it my self.

what did you decide to keep?

My Asian RTC, and my dovii. but I will surely add a couple more. Maybe a Columbian shark, but I think my cat will chase him..hopefully they wont in the 800!!

Just a heads up gallons dont matter its the foot print that does. My 900gallon (8ft, by 3ft by 5ft) I couldnt keep a niger catfish for life let alone a rtc.

Columbian shark as in ariopsis seemanni? Grows to 16" max and needs full salt as an adult. Must add salt starting when they hit around 6". Go fully salt by the time they are 12". If not they will die off, but these changes in salinity will kill off your other freshwater fish. I would go with another type of fish. These grow so slow that your artc would eat it before it got to any real size anyway. ARTC get huge. Zungaro Zungaro get huge and are really nasty mean. i've kept a few. Grow to around 6'+ and are pure attitude. Would be a nice cage fight to see which would win when large. You'd of course have to grow them in seperate tanks first before adding them together at a large size. You'd need a very, very, very, large (5000 gal or more) tank to house an adult artc with anything else so that it would have a chance to escape. You'd also have to keep it well fed so that it's hunger wouldn't get the best of it's tankmates. If you truely want to keep this monster dedicate the 800 to it and grow it out huge. Post up pics for everyone to see. How sure are you that you have a true artc? Many that have been posted are smaller similar species.
