all or 99% of the aros on the market are farm bred, the wilds have no color and do not command a premium price. A wild caught would not be sellable...................

Are you kidding? A wild caught asian aro would command HUGE $$$$$$. It's the same as with anything else that is supposed to illegal to own and rare. There's always a market for ill-gotten booty and I doubt you will find any links advertising sales or serious buyers.

it might be like that because its illegal. but i think its like koi, you go catch a wild carp and its ugly as crap compared to a koi that people want.:)

edit: perhaps its the fact you only need to make a small change to carp and you got crap. lol

However, wild caught specimens still command good prices (depending on the colour variety) and are in high demand, until at least captive bred stocks can meet demand. There is still an extensive illegal trade ongoing (pers. comm. with fish dealers). The prices of the different colour varieties of S. formosus differ greatly. The red and gold varieties can cost from five to ten times more than the green or normal variety (pers. obs.).

I doubt wild would command a price, the only people that may need them would be breeders and they have access to the fish.

I have never seen a wild for sale, if there were a market then you would see the fish fish for sale, somewhere.

The whole discussion started that RED aros were going to be legal, the worm interjected that "poor fisherman" could catch them. REDS are not wil fish, that was my point.

If this is true, whoever banned asian arrows is not only an idiot but a fool.

Even if what he said isn't true. the US gov could simply place a ban on imported asian aros....and have them bred in captivity.

/problem solved.

God I hate politicians.

Several distinct, naturally occurring colour varieties are recognised, each found in a specific geographic region. They include the following:
The green is the most common variety, found in Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia.
The silver Asian (not to be confused with the silver arowana, Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) is considered part of the green variety by some. It has two subvarieties, the "grey tail silver" or "Pinoh arowana," and the "yellow tail silver," each found in a different part of the island of Borneo in Indonesia.
The red-tailed golden is found in northern Sumatra, Indonesia.
The gold crossback, blue Malayan, or Bukit Merah blue is native to the state of Pahang and Bukit Merah area in Perak, Malaysia.
The red, super red, blood red, or chili red is known only from the upper part of the Kapuas River in western Borneo, Indonesia.
