Seems here we have someone with no experience on the matter, trying to give advise on the matter.

As said "crowding" is a loose term. We're keeping fish in glass(or acrylic) boxes.

An underlying goal of alot of members on this site seems to be taking things to the next level. And really if we follow only what everyone else has already done, play by some book rules, then we're really not breaking any new ground in this hobby. At that point we cease being Monster Fish Keepers IMO.

Some of the people who "crowd" they're tanks are the most advanced hobbiest's you'll ever meet. I am more enthusied by the hobbiest who did something different, has clean water and healthy fish than the hobbiest who plays by the rules read in a book and is afraid of something because of a theoretical principle.

I'd have to say that everyone here has experience to some degree. The real scales worth considering here are the conditions of the fish and water in our tanks. If these are in good health, all is well. It's just a matter of knowing healthy conditions from unhealthy.

And, for the record, I'm all for the 'next level', whatever it may be, as long as it's practical, you know what I mean? It's too easy for the novice to be lured into trying things he/she may not be ready for. I guess the real basis for my stance here is that there is a big soft spot in my heart for the novice. It saddens me to think of even one misunderstanding which leads to dead fish and hopeless keepers.

I'm not too terribly interested in whittling fine points with this discussion. It's deviating from the general, safe guidelines that can bring ruin to a budding Monster Fish Keeper. Not 'will', but 'can'.

Swatting flies with bricks here, not chopsticks.

It takes experience to have wisdom. Knowledge can be attained by anyone.

As someone who owns an overcrowded tank (though not that extreme till the fish are all squashed up together like in those food tanks)

I have to say that you really must know what you are doing before even attempting one.

However, once you have the set-up done correctly, the maintanence is pretty much like a normal tank.

And yes my fishes are healthy and disease free for more than 4 years in the current set-up.

Well then don't be surprised when one of those "bricks" bounces back and smacks you in the face.

if its overfiltered, its OK
but if its not, its unexcuseable and stupid

Takes more then just "overfiltered".

most asian style keepers treat their fish far better than "normal" keepers. superior water quality, feeding, and lighting/care

It's worth it, from my perspective. You see, this thread got long enough to draw some attention. That means more people have seen the debate and may be able to make an appropriate decision concerning this matter. Sort of a devil's advocate to my own statement, you see? I am the kind of person who is more than willing to make myself look like a jackass if it will further the cause. I consider dignity to be an oppressive social tool, and throw it off readily if it might make a positive difference in something which outweighs it.

Many causes outweigh the dignity of any given individual. Once you realize you're not special, life becomes a lot clearer. They really need to stop telling kids they're all unique.
