AT&T DSL sucks...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok. I just spoke with some of the "upper" leadership here. And this is what I learned.

I guess we are doing this in certain areas. However...... supposedly is should have little to no impact on your current bill, sometimes, I have been told, the new service is actaully cheaper. Also the service is really a forced upgrade. Your speeds should be faster. It is my understanding that they are not forcing the entire UVERSE serice on you, but just replacing whatever service you currently use. I agree that it should be more seamless, but it doesn't sound like you would be losing anything. We are upgrading our network in general, in an effort to stay up to date. Most like ly your service will be provided by fiber to our node now inplace of the old copper feed.

Chris

I know what they were trying to do...but if they want to do that and suspend their service to make a point, at least have a 24 hour service line available. Both my wife and I are engineers and work from home at night often. Who is going to compensate us for the time lost?

Again, having no recourse last night to turn on service when it is not equipment/line fault nor a billing issue is something I have to consider when considering whether to stay with
ATT or going to other alternatives.

I agree with that 100%. I have no idea what led to this type of miscommunication. And I would steaming over it too. Im going to stay out of this one now, I just replied to provide some info, but this one is going to turn into an ATT bashing thread quick. You can tell by all the positive replys.

This is for all the reactive haters. ATT is a corporation just like all the others. I honestly dont see much advantage in any of them. ComCast, Verizon, ATT, they all have their flaws, and corporate BS. It really is all about the numbers for all of these companies. The local folks for the most part do care about your service, and do everything in their power to keep you happy. Ine the end the vast majoity of people are satisfied, but some never will be. These companies have to operate as such, and corporate greed / profitability will always dictate where the upgrades to service take place. For virtually EVERY large company.

jcardona,

Thats alot of effort on their part to attempt to bring service to one customer. I know you were dissappointed in the service, and I understand, but someone did at least try to satisfy you. And the company is ALWAYS upgrading their plant, it may not be happening in your back yard, but it is going on in alot of areas all the time. We are pushing fiber out to many of our customers, and have been for years. Regretably it's not something that can happen fast enough, and there are areas where it was not financially viable to do so. Again, no ATT fanboy here, I have my issues as well. But at least let's not jump on the bandwagon and bash companies just for the sake of bashing them.

ecoli73 good luck, I hope everything works out for you. I agree with the sentiment to call and complain, if you can tolerate being on hold, and most likley being transferred around. I would suggest you ask for an on-shore rep, and then maybe ask to be transferred to their manager.

jcardona,

Not necessarily. They did me no favors. They should be required to provide the service for which they are charging me every month, which is stable internet service at the speeds they advertise. They sure have no problem collecting my money every month. And by refusing to fix their infrastructure, they aren't keeping up with their end of the bargain. When I was with ATT I had the 6mpbs Elite package which was the fastest I could get unless I signed up for their monopoly package (Uverse). I'd get 2-3mpbs on a good day, if I was lucky. With Comcast, I bought the 15mpbs package and consistently get 20-25mpbs any day of the week, any time of day. ATT needs a serious overhaul. They need to invest in their infrastructure if they plan on keeping customers, which it sounds like they're finally doing.

ecoli, glad you have service Now, anyway.
Interruptions tend to be unbearable.

is uverse the equivalent of Verizon fios?

man, I don't get fios in my area. I was stuck with Verizon dsl which was painfully slow. now I have time warner, which I hate but their internet is much better.
