ATF/Dorado/Goonch/Datnoid PICS!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks Chicx, I'm glad too! Doesnt surprise me though, everyone moving around more to all places of the tank, and seem more active, especially the Armatus, which makes me really happy .... those cats really are monsters, seeing the fish now proves to me that everyone was on edge while they were around ... just got to hope the cats dont get too aggressive towards each other, but only time will tell ... rays are acting completely the same too, just showing that the cats werent a problem to them, except during feeding ... really need the female to pop, cause the male is really giving her a hard time ... I'm actually thinking of moving him to the goonch tank until she gives birth ... it never ends! Lol!

Thanks cgibby! They truly are such powerful monster fish ... they are actually doing well in the 220, eating aggressivly again, so I'm confident they will do well in there for some time, on a size restricting diet!

My female Hystrix is killing me! She looks like she has aliens swimming around inside of her, I need her to have these pups now! I'm not a patient guy, and seeing pics of another members recent hystrix pups has gotten me so excited!

On a different note the heirarchy in the 400 has changed a bit since the loss of my smallest Goliath a couple weeks ago .... aggression has seemed to increase between the remaining 2 Goliaths, the Vit and Dorado ... its a little weird, Dorado has always been the alpha of the tank, but my big IT dat would keep him in check, but now since there are other Dats for him to play with, he seems less interested in going after Dorado ... but the Dorado is more interested in Bambusa than the ATF's although the ATF's do avoid Dorado as they always have and he occasionally chases them, but he always has done this so no biggie ... Its the ATF's fighting thats increased the most, but not bad as of yet ... I'd say the Vit is the most dominant, then the Big Goliath then the smaller Goliath, but my Big Goliath is losing his teeth, and scaped his eye a little so he is submissive and being chased by both occasionally and Dorado ... kind of annoying, but before he lost his teeth he was going after the other Goliath and eating like an absolute slob .... I'm a little nervous for when he heals up and gets his old character back, cause he's big, and if he gets in a had mood I am concerned for the other Goliath ... looks like 3 was the magic number, but only time will tell .... I have to say all the remaining fish are eating more since the goonch fear is gone, especially the Armatus, so continuing to hope for some good growth in the next few months, but also hope theres no drastic increase in aggression ... also my Armatus seems to enjoy nudging my Vit out of the way, but doesnt do anything to the Goliaths or Dorado ... such a weird checks and balances environment, just hope everyone keeps their role and nobody tries to be a hero!

Couple small vids
Goonches feeding in the 220 ... they still dont like to come out when the lights are on, so i drop pellets by their face, then turn the lights off and they go around clearing the area, was too dark to see anything to film though :(

Relaxed feeding in the big tank since i fed earlier this afternoon ... my Big Goliath is looking much better as far as his eye, and new teeth are in so he started eating a little today, finally ... also changed the powerhead set up a little so the rays are still getting used to it, along with everyone else ... sorry i have to film from the side like that, one of these days i'll pay the fiance (lol) to film while i feed them so i can get a full tank shot!

1 more, full tank vid, not much feeding though ... sorry for the double post, going on the PC is foreign to me, i always use my phone

Thanks Wes! Means an awful lot coming from you ... The remaining Bambusa is doing well too! although he's a little beat up, Dorado doesnt take well to new tankmates, but he's laying off him a bit now, and the Bambusa is getting much more comfortable in the tank .... you werent kidding, they grow super fast! too bad the goonches had to be taken out for a bit, but they'll go back eventually, but for now its better for everyone i think, especially since they seem to be doing fine even in the smaller tank ... Thanks!

I think that the first time ive ever seen an armatus eat pellets!

Great tank and fish. Whats your next tank upgrade plan?

Thanks trev ... The Hystrix is driving me crazy! Everytime I come home from work I run downstairs to see if she had them yet .... got to be any day now, I'm getting nervous the pups are going to tear through her like an alien! I'm like an 8 year old trying to go to sleep the night before christmas! Ever since seeing those hystrix pups in the ray forum by leevan I think, I've been soooo excited!

The Army is the most docile thing ever ... its almost like he knows the damage he can cause if he tags another fish, so he's so gentle when going for the pellets when other fish are around ... almost wish he was a little meaner! Well not really, but kind of .... he wont eat anything else! Crazy ...the only other thing I've seen him eat was a few pieces of frozen krill, when i had little dats in the tank, and a silverside at the lfs the day I bought him ... he's probably had the most change since goonches have been moved as well ... he's probably eating almost double what he was, which is very exciting

Future tank plans are in the dream phase still, but it will happen! ... I literally think about how I'm going to do it constantly, to the point that I've gotten lost in my Boars Head truck that i drive daydreaming about how I'm going to do everything ... right now I'm planning on the main show tank being 15×5-6×3, and dismantling my 220, since its very old and held together by straps, and using the 3/4 inch glass as the viewing panels and doing the rest out of wood, fiberglass and epoxy ... best case scenario would be that tank, plus an 8×4×2 tank and a 4x4x18 tank on either side to use the rest of the glass from the 220, and plumb them all into the same diy sump that will be behind the main tank ... I dont have to fill the other tanks right away, but I'd like to build them all together ... Really getting heavily addicted to rays and want the ability to shuffle them around when dealing with pregnant females and such, considering the perdicament i was in before i moved the cats out ... I'll find a way to make it happen one day, just got to really look at how to make it as efficient as possible so I can afford to run it for years to come ... I figure I've got about 2 years to get this going before my fish out grow this 10 footer
