I've actually tried the whole "glass-tapping" thing when one fish is after another one. It maybe startles them the first couple of times, then they just ignore it and keep on doing what they're doing. You can't teach them stuff, they're fish, they're dumb as dirt generally speaking.

What your talking about is called instinct. As I'm sure you're aware, fish are highly specialized at what they do. They are not dumb as bricks, but just programmed to do a few things very efficiently. Eat, poop, reproduce, and defend their territory. Expecting anything else is just not realistic. If your fish happens to recognize that giving it a nudge, means that maybe its doing something wrong, you are just kidding yourself. Your fist to them is just another entity trying to be the dominate force. 5 pound fish vs. 175 pound human. This is just my opinion on the matter at hand, so no need for anyone to get all bent-out of-shape because of what I typed.

How come they keep closing these threads?

My Pacu bit me, so I had to fry it:

Just kidding, this one jumped out, so we fried it. The other one that bit me...long story short, I brought to the LFS and even got cash for giving them my problem.

My ID sharks are pigs and constantly try to steal shrimps from the ray, so I need to stand by with my tongs and stab them with it to go away. One of them is pretty careful now and hardly ever comes near when I'm feeding my ray but the other one still persists, so I continue to stab it, but gentler now.

For those worried about their fish biting them, have you ever tried feeding your fish before you clean the tank... coz i've noticed my cichlid leaves me alone when i feed before cleaning...

if i did this i would not have a reason to take them out of the tank and try to kick them back in?:screwy:

I dont really think it hurts when my fish bite me while i hand feed my marble cat (he only eats live fish that are hung right in front of his mouth... picky catfish) so I dont do much to stop it. Usually my 3 barbs go crazy on my hand
