Oh yeah, hi silver dragon…
How has your tank been going?

The fish are ok, got a whole heap of tanks the other day, so very excited.

I am building a new place, and will build a fish room in the garage or make a shed out the back.

I will turn my main tank into a display tank inside, and all the other tanks will be for breeding.
I am looking at breeding, oscars, JD, BN( as I already got a few and now growing out for a pair. Might get more than one pair out of them as well.) maybe discus and what ever else comes along…
I have a lot of tanks now, and by the time the room is set up, I am planning on having more.

I've got to be honest and suggest that you shouldn't bother breeding run of the mill fish as suppliers like Bayfish are always going to outdo you when it comes to providing pet stores etc.

Try and hit niche markets with fish that aren't hard to breed but aren't all that common. Vieja sp., Eartheaters, Parachromis sp. and the 'rarer' Africans that most stores don't stock like A. compressiceps etc. will sell well if you're a member of a local city or state based forum, for more than what you'd get from the more common fish.

For example, if you could get your hands on a breeding colony or pair of G. abalios, Gy. balzanii or G. araguaia, which really aren't hard fish to find (balzanii might be), and use them as dedicated breeders, you'll do a lot better in both the trade and economical side of breeding fish.

Japes,
I know what you mean… I have never been a huge fan of Africans, but I will not rule them out.
The Oscar and JD are an all time favourite and would love to have a breeding pair.

One of my LFS said that if I got BN he would take them no worries… hence the reason why I am growing them out now.
When the time comes I will do some research into what fish to try and breed. Plus when the time comes I will have that many tanks, a few set aside for O’s, JD and BN will be nothing.

Tell you the truth I am running out of room for the tanks in the shed at the moment or I would have more.
I know it will be a long time down the track before anything is set up, but it is ok to have a little dream.

hi, just wondering if anyone can advise me on what the best way to get 10ftx4ftx3ft tank built into your house is. my brother and i are buying a house this year and have kept exotic fish in 6x2x2ft setups for over 5 years we just really want to know the best way to set it up and most ecomonical way eg. sump or big pond filter, material glass or perspex frame wooden or metal. If any one can help us that would be great
thanks
