Tannins are good if you really want a natural look, but it doesn't indicate when you need to do a water change. Try keeping a tank with a few 'new' pieces of driftwood clear: It's not possible unless you like doing a permanent waterchange 24 hours a day.

Nitrate test kits on the other hand..

yeah i do a 1/3 water change every week without fail but the branch isn't gonna stop seeping for a while so i'll just have to live with it. i have plenty of lighting with my underwater spotties so visibility isn't a problem

I doubt your tank would be brown in 24 hours.

Hi all. I'm an American who now lives in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. I hope I still qualify for the thread. I had a pretty good collection of new world cichlids before I moved here. I'm just keeping a few types of corys and bristlenose that I am breeding at the moment. I just shut down my discus tank and will soon be looking for a nice tank buster. Looking for a nice clean trimac hopefully. Can you get grammodes in Oz? I'm still trying to find out what's actually available here since I haven't kept any big cichlids since arriving.

Hey ppl since im here, if anyone wants to buy an Ornate Bichir 45cm plz msg me.. talk about price if anyone interested and i think its almost fully grown.

I'm in OZ have gars/ gigas / aros /RTC all the big stuff and most of the small stuff too :)
