Putting aside the fish . The birds which I particurly like are amazing in Australia.

What an unreal assortment of such colorfull birds.

A bit off topic but I like birds too especialy fishing raptors we have three localy white sea eagle, osprey and brahminy kite. The parrots are what I guess you like Louie ? regular visitors to my yard are sulfur crested cockatoos, corellas, galahs, rainbow lorikeets, crimson rosellas and eastern rosellas.

Some more pics of Bream from the kayak and an Indo Pacific Tarpon which took a Jackal chubby crankbait intended for Bream. I realy like Jackal chubbies in both shallow and deep. 1 Bream and the Tarpon (about 55 cm) caught on a G Loomis SR841-2 Daiwa Airity 1500 and a shallow chubby. The other Bream on a G Loomis BSR 801 Mossyback Daiwa Steez and a deep chubby. This is my favorite outfit to use in the kayak sorry about the phone camera pics the poor framing and thumb in the tarpon pic its a bit tricky taking pics in the kayak.

OMG that is unreal. That is something you never get Bored of seeing. We have Quakers which are common all over USA and Peacocks but nothing to special.

I particularly love the lorikeets but all your local birds are amazing

That one made the news here too. Here in S E Queensland we have on average 1 fatality every couple of years. There have been 4 or 5 reported attacks this summer all surfers. The last fatality was in the bay, lady attacked by bullshark a couple of years ago. 5 years ago a man was killed swimming in a brackish lake on the gold coast again a bullshark. This lake is one of my favorite spots . I often used to chat with this guy when I was fishing there, he swam every day, and he knew they were common there. I still fish there regularly . Growing up I swam in the brisbane river every day in summer (this is the bullshark capital of the world). To be honest I think there is more chance of being killed in a car crash on my way to go fishing than being taken by a shark.

I agree its rare to be attacked but knowing it can happen it would be something which would dampen my fun.

People here swim the ocean also some daily however now there is a shark alert due to large numbers of bull sharks so doubt anyone is still swimming ESP early in am .

Like you mentioned in another post its the bull sharks that are the biggest attackers.

Here are some pics of a mate of mine who is also a member of our local fish stocking association. Freshwater fish stocking in QLD is done by local groups with funds they raise themselves and funds raised by the freshwater fishing licence. These pics were taken over the last couple of years on the bank of one of our local dams Lake Samsonvale . Pics are of Australian Bass and Golden Perch Maquaria ambigua, which dont breed in the dam as there is no fish lift for the Bass to get to and from the saltwater,or a long enough stretch of river upstream for the Golden perch. So they are stocked yearly.

Here is a pic taken while fishing for Aust. Bass in one of my local streams recently. A 4 foot Bullshark has just taken a 10 inch Bass as I was landing it. It had a go at it and missed then came back and took it. The pic does not show much but it was pretty exiting, my mate did well to get this pic IMO. It bit through the leader seconds later.

This is my PB Yellow finned Bream. Acanthopagrus australis 49 cm released, one of the most common fish on the east coast of Australia. Found from freshwater to ocean, 40 cm+ is a trophy fish 45 cm+ very rare. It was caught in a freshwater oxbow lake on a 2inch Gulp worm, G Loomis 8200s dropshot, Daiwa Airity 2000.

looks so much like the north east version of scup. or called porgy ..
