Azul grow out thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great pics, they are coming along nicely.

I did some maths, i got mine at 7cm 18 weeks ago. 23cm growth in 18 weeks. Which is 1.27cm a week or 1.81mm a day! haha crazy when you break it down.

Strange thing is I've shifted mine to a 6mm pellet in the last weeks, and they absolutely gauge themselves on these pellets, they still eat the whitebait but really love their pellets more than anything.
Mine are currently hooked on massivore I’ve gotta ween them off it I think get a more varied diet. Best shot I could get tonight the silver dollars kept blocking the view 0B2F6DE3-CD89-4986-A32A-1847BD0B00EE.jpeg

Rhyno - While massivore/carnivore is a decent food. I find it is very addictive for fish, and hard to get them off. For this reason I make a point of never feeding it to anything. My tanks are all fed the same Ottohime pellets and whitebait- and occasionally i will grab something from the fish market like fillets or squid etc. Everything grows exceptionally well. I also do 1 day a week where i do not feed at all (don't do this for young fish).

I made the hard decision on the weekend to thin my bass numbers out. I got rid of my 4 smallest Xingus (most likley the girls) - as the tank was just mental at feeding time and I was starting to worry about some other fish being injured by the bass at feeding time. I also removed some wood from the tank too. Must say tank seems much more pleasant to look at and far more peaceful. Sometimes less is better!

In terms of bass that leaves me with 2 male Xingus and 3x Azuls, which looks to be 2m 1f.

Azuls colours are definitely changing now. Blue colour is coming through in the fins, and on the face, especially towards the mouth. Spots have reduced in intensity and a little bit in number.

We are moving house later this year (likely around mid year). So less fish to move the better. Exploring my options at the minute for a new tank. 12'x4'x3' tall is the likely tank size that we will end up with. Will be good to see how big these Azuls will really get in the next few years.

Have attached some pics.

You’ve got some stunning fish! I’d love a couple of xingus but I think that ship might have sailed for the time being. What other fish are in with yours?

Your Azul look amazing! I’ve got a full bucket of nls Thera a in 6mm I wanna try and convert them onto big challenge though. The future tank sounds awesome I’m hoping to have something like that one day.

Eric A - I don't mind the Xingus, a lot more mellow than the Azuls that's for sure. I had no interest in ever breeding them, so a couple hand picked males from a group that started as 8 will do me. They are in with 10 Striped Silver Dollars and some plecos.

Rhyno - convert them sooner rather than later. I've just moved mine to a 6mm pellet.

Awesome man!

Will be interesting in 12 months time how they are all getting along.
