And i agree with what your all saying but if you've raised pits like I n some others have, I raise my dogs to be child friendly as well as people. I've been raising pits for 13yrs and I have never had a problem with any of them attacking or looking at kids or people in a mean manner(I've raised more then 10 dogs). Its like raising a child, teach them right an you never have to worry

Everyone has a right to their opinion but I could not disagree more. Has nothing to do with Pits, its dogs in general. I'm a dog lover, have had one since I can remember but in the end they are animals and can bite, regardless of training. Just like humans, you can be calm as a cucumber every day of your life but that doesn't mean that the perfect storm can't occur causing you to punch someone. I'm not saying don't keep dogs but you would be foolish to think your kid is safe simply because you trained your dog.

I think a better way to put this IMO is to say that you can take a whole bunch of crud everyday for lets say in the case of a dog 3-4years there will be that one day eventually where the dog will snap I know with me I can only take so much before I snap

You said that any dog could bite without warning, which is snapping without warning and that dog would have mental problems.

And if the dog is being abused he's still going to show signs before he bites.

Hello; Here is a link to one of the reports on the dog bite site. In this report they say that in a period from 2006 to 2008 pit bulls alone were responsible for 59% of all fatal dog attacks.

what about the other 41%?

Hello; You should check to verify but if I recall correctly pit bulls and rottweilers(sp?) accounted for around 78% of all fatal dog attacks in the reported period. That leaves 22% of the remaining fatal dog attacks to be spread out among what ever the other species were.

They also have a section that breaks down each fatal attack for individual years giving a table of the particulars. Some in 2011 and 2012 have happened in the state where I live, TN.

A fatal attack that caught my attention not long ago was not a pit bull. I do not recall the breed this moment. A family pet dog of several years that had been raised by the owners apparently walked over to a newborn just home from the hospital and bit into it's head. This is much to the theme of the current thread. Regardless of the state of the owners, responsible or not, a dog can suddenly just attack. It is not stuff made up to give dogs a bad name. It is the awful reality that people have to face when a trusted dog decides, for whatever reason, to attack leaving a loved one dead.

As some may or may not know they are a pack in the family and once you bring home someone or something new they take it as a threat. Yes even a newborn is a threat. Only because they receive more attention an love at the moment. Dogs arent geniuses as some may state, but if you introduce them as a new member to the pack it will be less threatening then if not.

to be honest no i havent and will never read it. ive heard about the reports and seen some attacks first hand. like one of the old posts said dogs wont just attack for no reason. so all those accounts of attacks were triggered by the human some how.just cause the reports seem accountable doesn't mean they actually are. so forget the facts and opinoins dont dismiss the truth. i have a question for you. have you personally ever owned a pitbull?

Hello; I am afraid that much of your response is confusing except that you will not check out the site that you are dismissing. Again it is not my information, but it does seem very compelling.

I have not owned a pitbull. The last dog I had was a siberian husky.

Hello; Thank you for helping to strengthen my point. To a dog that has been fine in every other way for a long time even a helpless newborne can be a "threat". I believe the parents and possibly others were in the room with the baby and the dog. It make sense that they were very likely paying attention to the new baby and still could not prevent the fatal attack.

Hello; I checked to be sure and found that I had it wrong. The correct number for the combined fatal attacks for pitbulls and rottweilers is 73%.

You can't really say that all dogs will take it as a threat some will, some won't, it all depends on your dog.
