If you don't add any medicine, no need to remove the carbon. If you can, keep tank temp in 82-84, to prevent ick in future. If you plan to feed live feeders, quarantine them first. Get a 10 gal tank, and buy a lot of them. Dose feeders tank with ick medicine to make sure they're clean before you throw them in the main tank.
