Baby ST making a comeback?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive seen 30 vietnamese or cambodian D pulchers in person all in one order. First of all the price was not cheap, this was a year ago when they were brought in. They are 3 to 6 inches and all look like perfect st. Tell me how all 30 are hand picked indos?
They are always stable and are never hiding, the traits of a true st. Not such with a indo.
Wide bars do not have to come from thailand, remember if it looks like a duck and quack like a duck its probably a duck lol.

This is just my opinion on the subject.

If calling a 3 bar indo, vietnamese "pulcher" helps you sleep better at night that's fine, but as far as I'm concerned, being a "new/different " variant, I need to hear it from a reputable source in order to believe it, such as magazine, scientific article, etc.
..and I don't need to prove you wrong, quite the opposite...you have to back up your statement with something else other than plain words....you can start by telling me what is the scientific name of the vietnamese "pulcher":popcorn:
So now we have Vietnamese "pulcher!" Did he say Vietnamese "pulcher" or Vietnamese Tiger? It's simply as a D. Pulcher, but some of the expert prefer to go by tiger like ST, VT, CT (which I don't even know whether it stands for Cambodia Tiger or Controversial Tiger) :screwy: You know Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam are not that far from each other. They're probably closer to each other than California to New York, and they share a river called Mekong river. Believe in whatever you want! Buy whatever you like... ;)

the only thing I don't agree with is how easy the name "pulcher" is being tossed around these days ( "like a two dollar hooka" to quote R1 :) ) .

I am not sure where this comes from but my experience with my pulcher was not like this. He was unstable for a long time and after feeding or something he had the habit of hiding.

Talking about all the pulchers like there always stable is the same as saying all indo's are unstable, it's just not true. Almost all fish have different personality's and this is especially true for datnioids. And besides, enviroment etc also plays a big role.

I think there are some fair points being raised in this topic about if the now sold tigers are pulchers or not, but we have to stay with facts and don't get to the point where opinions become facts.

In the end it probably comes down to the point where we as hobbyist cannot visually id the fish. What we are left with is a lot of scam's because there is a lot of demand. A lot of hobbyist paying a lot of money for a fish that is not what it's being sold as. If the majority of the people will ever notice the difference is another question.

Now for all of your enjoyment :D (damn I miss him :()

D. pulcher has been around for long time. D. microlepis used to be classified as D. pulcher... IMO, they separate them, because Indo datnoid wasn't from the Mekong river. That's just simply my opinion, without any research to support.

I've seen them "tiger fish" since I was a kid back home... Just remember them as some "yellow" fish, sometimes, "silver"fish, with stripes that can swallow my bad arse siamese fighting fish in whole! :screwy: I don't remember whether their strip sweeps back, pointy, or whether they have 2 stripes, or 3 stripes on tail...

That is so true...
No offense, but those Japanese hobbyist must be not so damn smart, since they spent a fortune to buy those new type pulcher... Or they probably know something that we still trying to figure out...

If you look back at ALL my posts mike is said in every single one this was not a attack on you

But there seams to be a certain member that is so far up your back side he goes running off to you crying mike mike look what T1 is saying about you

At no point did I ever say a bad word about you just that you have more intrest in rays rather than other fish which I thunk is true your passion lays mainly with rays but yes you do buy and sell other fish as a trader can't live on 1 type of fish alone

I don't care what this batch of tigers are ST IT or what ever kind of T people want to call them I have stated many time that they look nice and I would have them in my tank at the drop of a hat

This ST IT or what ever T doesn't bother me if the price was right I would buy them if the price was right and at $400 I don't think the price is right and if a new fishing point has been found then there will be loads for sale soon and the price will drop a lot to the $150 mark

At this moment in time it seams the vendor is sending out the best he has as the stripes are as near perfect as you could probably find on a ST or a 3 bar IT this is the other strange thing even with true ST you get a lot with forked and split bars and we are not seeing any of them at the moment

Also ST with IT tail stripes is not seen that much with real ST but we are seeing over 60% of this new lot with IT tail stripes

We all know that the tail stripe is not a 100% easy of telling ST from IT but why do so many of this new batch have so many with IT tail stripes

Mike I think you are taking this way to much to heart which is why I sent you a PM 1st asking you what you think about this new batch and if I have said anything bad about you I would like you to point it out please

Right I read in this thread that mike at h20 brought 40 of the ST look a likes

He says he THINKS they are real and he's going to grow them out to see

But without dissing mike they are not rays and how often do we ever see him in the tiger/dat part of this forum
Probably I'm sensitive, but if it was your intend to say that I'm the one "goes running off... crying mike mike look what T1 is saying about you," you're the crying one here.... We're all grown up here, no need to be childish... Be a little open mind, and you'll learn something in return. You may not see everything, although you've been in the hobby for a long time, 20 years, 30 years, whatever... However, if you think/believe you know all, decide to go with your preference, it's your choice and it's your right... No need to attack others, and if you do so, at least man up!

Just seams strange that mike never posts in this part of the forum then all of a sudden he's here looks like someone went crying to him don't you think

I have learn something in this thread maybe you have to
