Bumping this back from the dead.
I still have the tank. Moved out of my Dad's place and got my own. Been here for 2 years. Had a unique waterfall reef that I took down and downsized to a 50g which I will be cycling soon.
I am on break from my school and have been thinking about completely designing a complete aquarium from scratch- in the midst of looking at photos and videos I came upon ADAs documentary for a museum build and got inspired again to resurrect my 190g.
I have a lot of space in the new place and was thinking of setting the tank as close to the ground as possible. I'd put it directly on the ground with some cushion if not for the bottom drain and return pipes, but I think a stand 6" tall will do. I'll be using the same style as my original inspiration with the simpson braces.
Filtration will come from an fx5.
Lighting from those par38's I still have. Spot lit.
Aquascape will be hardscape. Rocks and branches. Very minimal.
Fish will be 6-8 of wild discus. I may want to keep the fish specific to its native region or may just go full artificial and mix. If I end up mixing I'll probably do 15-20 tiger barbs, 5+ kuhli loaches, 10+ cories (whatever LFS has), and a few royal and mango plecos.
I plan on doing 20g water changes every 2-3 weeks and feed the fish very lightly on a daily basis.
I have a rodi unit and a 50g storage so this can be done by just hooking up a pump to drain about 20g and another to fill the tank back.
There will probably be some air plants and spider plants sitting on top of the tank itself. No canopy- just tank and shallow stand. Emphasis will be a minimal open environment.
In front of the tank I may modify the desk where the tank will be so that it sits low to the ground as well. Something like Amano's private build- Japanese style. Not sure on the furniture just yet.
Anyway, it's a lot words- I know everyone hates that, but if you are diligent in following and I actually execute this idea I'm sure your eyes will be rewarded. It is not priority, but I just came back to get some motivation.
At the moment I am clearing the area as I am reorganizing my workspace anyway. AKA I am anticipating going through with this whole thing.
Cheers!
