Hmm I use to have black gravel but I switched out to sand for my stingrays. Lol...ya the blue does look a lot nicer with black substrate.

Last years set up pics with blue background with black gravel.

Me I always like black for a freshwater background. Looks more natural and blue looks like it belongs to a saltwater tank,

My lfs uses "salt & pepper" sand with a blue background in their tanks. All black would be better, but, It does do the fishes colors wonders. They sell a " live black sand". Just a thought.

Ya I have my background as blue now and it does do wonders for my fish's color but I can see what everyone is saying about using black substrate with the blue but I don't feel like forking out another couple hundred on black sand. I already spent $150+ on the white sand...

blue for sure

Personally I like black better, im putting a black background on my new tank when I set it up. But right now I mostly have nocturnal fish atm.

Ya I think the black works best with the beach white sand. As of now I'm using the blue and will be changing it back to black sometime in the near future. I just want to enjoy my fish's colors a little bit longer before I change it back:)
