Finally after so many years and a bad first experience I'm going to try a reef tank again. Starting with a 30g, i guess would be classified as a nano, and if all goes well would like to ideally move to 80g bowfront or something of the sort. I've been up and running for two weeks now. Everything is looking good. Water parameters are almost spot on. So good so far. still have 15-20lbs of rock to add to the 'reef', but i've been building slowly. I'll keep posting any successes or failures for any that are interested.

For filtration I have a FX5 with all three baskets filled with bio media and a DIY skimmer box.
A coralife superskimmer, no refugium right now. the cabinet the aquarium is on only has drawers and no place to put a sump/refugium. Lighting is only 10,000 & actinic T8's as it's F/O for the time being. Will most likely be purchasing some sort of powercompact hood w/lunar lights in the not too distant future. For the size of tank that will give me over 4W/gal and I should at least be able to get away with some soft corals. Looking at getting an inline heater w/contoller too.

very cool, I have a 30g salt now and I havent had it for quite a year yet but slow is the best way to go... I let mine sit for a month sand/light another month or two of sand/light/rock then added inverts...than more LR and a fish.... good luck... get some pics up of it!

Here's a few picks. I'll keep posting new ones as things change. For the good and hopefully not for the bad.

Everything looks in order. Lots of prep. Lots of time. Balanced ecosystem + slow stocking = success.
