well at least i think Li is in japan, not sure. wherever he is, the picture i posted came from his facebook post earlier this morning. and that poster is the same one in James' thread. so i really dont know what the actual source is, but they are the bahia's either way

Li is in Taiwan. I doubt he'll be bringing any back or getting any soon. The first pair which is seen in the poster, are the ones I imported, bought from the wholesaler that has exclusive distribution of this fish in Taiwan from the breeder.

the 2nd pair came a few months later, but much less spectacular. There are no breeding fish in Japan, the ones in sold from Japan came from the same breeder that my fish came from, the first batch about 300 were all sold to Japan.

Hope that clears up the confusion :)

oic, if that's the case, there'll be some arriving at the local LFS some time in near future. will post photos if I see them. rumors are that they aren't that nice (but then how can anyone tell at those sizes) and going at prices mentioned in earlier post locally.

ok so went to several LFS today. confirmed that none were actually bred in japan, but that was a japanese magazine. supposedly sold to singapore and china. May be some went to japan. this comes from a source that knows the breeder personally. one of the more upstream vendors in the channels.

end last year, rapps USA kels came thru which sold for 500-600usd, larger 5-7" fish. recently, another batch dunno from where started showing up but supposedly wild imported to china orignally months ago, grown out and now being sold. these are pictured with the yellow tinted water. body color is a bit more olive when compared to others. 5" fish 450-500usd

with all the talk of the taiwanese bred kels floating around, today finally found some. lil guys, with large gold specs. 85 bucks usd retail level. cheaper than i had imagined so i stand corrected. These came from a more recent batch. reportedly, the first batch was in feb of this year, and are about 3 inches or so now, showing some body spots, but no anal or pelvic speckling.

most recent sighting, to me anyways, here in photo with blue background, is from a yet, another source. looks like a bahia juvi to me? more from where those came from as well, not sure source. 450-500usd ones in back ground are reportedly wild kels that come via china mentioned above, with more olive color.

with all the kels floating around this year, bound to be some imposters sold as well. juvis pictured in the bag are labeled kels but price is equiv to less than 20 usd so highly unlikely. "there's no guarantee, thats what my source told me" says the vendor

nice research madness....it looks like you have some amazing shops and kels every where. thanks for the info.

Are those in the bag what you decide to get?

$138 divided by 7 x 0.something ... = $20ish USD...

I'd take on those bet... it's cheap and worth the risk

;)

if my mono can turn into nigro, I don't see why these mono can't turn into kelberi

:D
