My former female developed her deep red at around 4.5-5" and stayed that way all the time. I don't know what's wrong with this one, she must be a late bloomer or it's going to turn out to be male after I ran my mouth to Arthur. I apologize Arthur, I'm not always a jerk...but have my moments. Actually, I thought she was a male when I chose to keep her, that's what I originally wanted. It wasn't until I put her in with the Dovii that I changed my mind. That's when the dorsal fin started doing the classic female black and red. And she started doing her shimmy-shake dance for him all the time. I was trying to look at her vent but there's not really anything there I can see. Well I'm still leaning towards female but they haven't mated, she hasn't laid eggs and she has a very male-ish green face, blue body spangles and lots of blue spangling on the rear part of the dorsal...just like a male. This is a very weird Festae for sure. I have the most weird tank right now in general lol. Well either way I won't be disappointed.
Updates to come....
ChiaJesus said:Man I love festaes. I just picked up some wild ones last week. How many was in your original group? I was told by a true cichlid expert that festaes are like malawis. If you have a small number they're absolutely lethal. But if you overstock them the aggression really spreads itself out.
Congrats on your new Festae. You're going to love them. I don't know about the overstocking thing. I tried it once and it didn't work.
