:iagree: :D, cant forget the monster equipment and supplies.

I know of one pet store that offers hand outs with all its pets including fish.

I do think that we shouldn't get divisive on this, the point isn't to drive away newbies but instead to gently guide them to correct fishkeeping, there will always be idiots and driving some fish into the blackmarket doesn't keep them out of the hands of the idiots. Letting the legistlature get involved just ensures that OUR future as fish keepers ends up at the mercy of people who don't know, won't learn, and don't care.

OHHHHHHHHHH! well said guppy my man, absolutly right, i dunno what i was thinkin

well you shouldnt have a problem keeping guppies for life. but give me a break. this is mfk. fish kill otherfish. people kill fish. birds kill fish. and we still have thousands at every fish store. not all animals are kept in optimum conditions. save this crap for PETA members. lets talk about the mayhem and destruction some of our members snakeheads could dish out, not that they get too big for most peoples tanks. care about YOUR fish dont worry about everyone elses.

I am not saying that these fish need to be banned all together, I am just saying they should not be allowed to be sold in your regular pet stores but still you being able to obtain them through breeders and other private methods.

CentralMayhem, I do not even know why you brought feeders into this all together (on page 3) as no one even mentioned them yet you said we are “fish racists”. No one cares about feeders being killed as food, that is nature (its cold but it is still the way it is). There are certain fish out there that strictly eat other fish, that is the nature. Things do die but buying an Oscar and sticking it in a 15 gallon tank and once it dies simply saying “well all things die, this is nature” is simply idiotic. Other fish, like the Neons you mentioned, dieing is understandable… you can not have 100% success rate and that is indeed nature. But stick a Neon into 1” square cube filled with water and watch it die and say that is nature is once again wrong.

Not all animals are kept in optimum conditions, simply ignoring it and looking the other way as you take care of your pets is simply wrong. You do not sit and watch things go by, the whole idea is try and make things better. The idea is to help the pets who are not in those good conditions and do something for the future to help and prevent from such happening again. Sitting and looking the other way is ignorant, selfish, and irresponsible.

The general idea why I have purposed this thought of not having these fish in stores is because mainly the people who do these types of mistakes seriously do not care and most of the time it is an ego thing so they can go to their friends and say “hey I got a Piranha in my tank that can tear up other fish!”. Just to show off! My idea of people is a bit depressing and I do not look at this as a few doing wrong and most doing right, it’s the other way around in my mind.. most ****ing up and very few having a clue on what they are doing. To support my idea I can provide a basic example; we had tons of people come in and ask for Piranha (obviously not having a proper tank or any idea about the fish for that matter) and once they were told that they are illegal in NYC they would go with an Oscar or something else simply because, as I stated before, they do not care and just want to show off and they are simply not willing to take time to go look for that Piranha thus in result not getting it. Applying the same idea to other large fish. Yet the fish would still be available to the people who do care and would be willing to take the time to get it, simply by doing something along the lines of going onto a forum like this one and buying it from a breeder or another hobbyist.

I am not trying to put CentralMayhem on the spot, just responding to the general way things went on this page. Obviously feel free to respond and question anything I have stated. This is indeed a fish forum that has enough room to talk about the destruction of some of the monsters on here and this issue, and in my eyes this is a responsible thread that discusses a serious problem.
