banjo catfish

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There are plenty of dither fish you can put in that tank for movement. Hatchets being one. Most dither fish are pretty easily kept.. You may lose one or two to the catfish eventually. I sexes them by their dorsal fin. Planet catfish has some good info on there. Check them out

+1
I also sexes them by fin rays. The males leading dorsal fin ray is noticeably longer. Also my females are 3 times bigger than the males. Coincidently only buying females now, my big girl pushing 7-8".

Looking forward to both of your pics ... gives me something to compare them to.

By the way finally saw 4 of the banjo's early this morning ... still 2 in hiding since the tank changes.

Lovely Tank MrMom! really coming along nicely! love the direction your going! I finally saw 2/3 of mine today! only been seeing one the past few weeks... but pretty sure I have 2 girls and a boy as the 2 bigger ones are usually out the smallest is very reclusive. My guppies also dropped about 50 baby today.. so be interesting to see how many make it threw the night between the banjos and the banded knife in there.

Love those Eel tails.. last time I saw one it was 80$ >.< and they only had the 1.

Thanks about the tank MonsterMinis, only problem is I've allowed my Banjo's even more places to hide. Although I was able to watch 5/6 swim around tonight at feeding time. The one older one with the undamaged whiskers is still AWOL ... it was also the one that had gotten out of the tank when I was removing everything. But its always nice when they come out and say hi ... especially when they've gone AWOL for awhile.

Love the fish WarrendaFish ... and thanks for the insight on the sexing thing. I'll have to try to see how mine look .. if and when they start becoming visible again. I figure they're just punishing me for changing their tank once again.

I've had this eel tail trio about 8 months. They've grown quite a bit, but my fish are spoiled..  they were originally kept in a 125 gal heavily planted with discus and others and not a sand substrate. They were just recently moved down to this 40 long with sand. They've been in the tank now about a month.

I'm trying to find out a little more about them through experience. I've noticed since they've been in the 40L they like The current created by the long air stone on full blast although there is no sand there. They do however bury themselves on the opposite side of the tank during the day.

I'm pretty sure they are not big enough to breed but who knows.. I've read one story about a guy who got shipped a prego female with four sacks attached to the abdomen. Not sure where I read the story. And I don't think any fry survived very long. So I'm pretty sure they've never been bred in captivity.

Just trying to observe Some behavior with different parameters and flow and decor, etc and eventually put them in a species tank to try and get them to breed.

Look forward to some pics from you guys!!

Finally had time to clean the tanks and put together a vid. My older eel tails love goldfish pellets. Second part has my new guys(2 months with me)in a 12gallon nano. I forget how active they are at 3". Enjoy.

Warren your banjos look healthy and plump. I regret putting plecos in with them. No more perfect fins like yours. So I'd probably advise against them. A 3" leopard cactus did this to them, the smaller peckolitas don't bother them.

Stats:
42g bow 2m/1fm
12g nano 1m/4fm

*prefer the size and shape of the adult females.
