I wish that I could do plants as well as you can. No problem keeping fish healthy/feeding. Plnts die under me no matter what they are...

Want to know the secret to how I've got nice plants? .... I let my 9 yr old son (turns 10 this week) handle the plant maintenance. I couldn't get anything to grow ... he's got the secret recipe so to speak. He even had an anubias bloom in one of our other tanks ... guess I should've taken a picture (forgot), now its starting to shrivel it looks like (the bloom).
I pass along the compliment to him.
I'm impressed that someone so young is behind that. He really has a gift the little Takashi Ammono

Nice update Mr Mom!! I'm digging the over grown look and I'm sure your fish are too  I didn't realize how big those shrimp were in comparison to the banjos. Everybody looks good! Keep it up.
Mine also occasionally do "tail stands" too but there is nothing in my tank for them to hunt. they are still very healthy, loving life, the sand, and the current. When I finally give them their own tank and try to spawn them I will take diligent notes and pass them along.

Thanks WarrendaFish .... Always looking for info of possible spawning. Actually came across something the other day browsing the net. Supposedly a person had an accidental spawn occur, they had just done a WC and accidentally dropped the tank temp to 70F ... haven't tested this theory yet, but in time I probably will. But I have gradually lowered my tank temp to 73F currently (used to be at 77F).
The shrimp have grown well in there as well, I do like the wild look but debating mowing everything down ... My son and I just picked up a 37G tall for a project we've been contemplating, but I may need to steal pieces of driftwood from some of my tanks (including this one) so some layout changes are probably in store over the next few months.
Chub_by consider yourself lucky .... not everyone has a green thumb. I can grow terrestrial plants fine, the aquatic plants though have given me my ups and downs; whereas my son seems to be a natural with the aquatic plants.
blackghostknife ... don't be so hard on yourself (although you may have a black thumb). For my son and I, we had to play with a few different light setups and different plants before we started understanding things. It helped that we had 4 tanks with 4 different lights, when a plant didn't work in one setup we'd just move it to the next tank. Until we found what worked best where (still trying to balance things in my 55G though).
By the way .... you're not the first person to make a comparison to him becoming a little Takashi Ammano. His head swells a little bigger everytime it happens.

I have Java fern and it's all scraggly but it's lasted longer than any other plants under my care and actually grew new leaves. My tanks mostly have wood and are bare bottom.
But to the topic and hand, banjo cats are so cute. Yours are so cute. I've only ever seen a handful in my lfs.

My big girl was out last night begging me to take a couple pics. sorry about the dirty glass 
She's gotta be pushing 9" and gotta be mature. Since they are doing do well in this tank i think I will just remove every one else.. Mostly Plecos.
Her head is massive.. Thinking about adding more sand and some sort of long wide cave facing the current.

Looking very good WarrendaFish ... gotta admit those eeltail Banjo's sure emphasize the disproportion of the tail vs. the head. My 2 eel tails are maybe around 4" now. Whereas my regular Banjo's are at least 5" now.
The way you're thinking is how I ended up with my first species only tank for my Banjo's. Should warn you though, if they're like my regular Banjo's, they'll enjoy the increase in sand. I've got probably 2 - 2 1/2" of sand in my tank. At first it seemed they were always buried in the sand, but as time has past I find them utilizing other types of cover in my wild jungle of a tank now.
But then again who knows ... my 2 eel tails tend to bury themselves from time to time, but it appears it's less frequent than my regular Banjo's.
Gotta admit though, I'm glad I added the White Mountain Minnows. More action in the tank and less complaints from my family. As well seeing the Banjo's in action (on the hunt) has been very enjoyable.
