Bare Bottom Vs. Sand...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sand is what I think they prefer.

I recently got my ray and to start with I had gravel in the bottom but it bothered him so I removed it. He seemed very upset that I had taken it away and not very happy with the bare bottom. As soon as the first cup of sand went in he ran for it and dived in. Since then he he seems much happier (at least to me) and it does look very nice.

Each one has their pros and cons. But at the end of the day, both choices are acceptable
for rays. Its all personal choice like they said.

I will stick this as this topic always comes out.

in my opinion I think that the rays prefer sand becuase they could hide and burry themselves. But as a owner we would prefer barebottom because we can see there design cleanly and not covered in sand and it is easier to clean. But I have sand myself cuz I think bare bottom looks plain

bare is convenient and easy to clean, but I think your ray would be happier with sand

Which would be better for a ray?

It all depends on the species of stingray. Some prefer to bury and others do not. It also depends on the size. Juveniles tend to be more comfortable with a sandy bottom. Once older, most rays do well with either sand or bare.
