That is gonna' be freeking cool. Put some African Haps. in there my friend to give it some color.

Hehe... i used to live in south africa (which is pretty close to malawi) and those Haps are quite common in stores there, so im not too keen on them really because of that.

I have kept them before but find them very aggressive and intolerant of other species of fish. I guess in a massive tank that wont play up as much as the other will have plently of space to hide. who knows.

also... they are really territorial and will kill an oscar in a small tank.
They very quick and will swim circles around it and peck it to death.
I need space hehe... 55G is very quickly becoming way too small.... so hopefully soon all my work will pay off and theyll have space to roam.

In a tank that big you shouldn't have any problems with them. :grinno:

Allright, well its been quite a while and I have been working hard and finishing off the room. A few things have changed and my dream of building the 300+ gallon tank is to be put on hold for a while as me and my partner are thinking of doing some travelling. Shes just left her job of 11 years and I am not really settled where I am so I figure that we should do a bit of exploring and chilling out in the sun.

Anyways, I have completed the basement build and moved my 55gallon down there with my oscars. I had to say goodbye to my arowana, one of my oscars (the aggro one) and my clown knifefish. They went to a man with a 6ft X3ftX2ft tank and are very happy in there :)

Heres the pictures from start to finish... remember this was the basement room and was full of crap:

I am really sad that things diddnt pan out for my clown knifefish and arowana, and my dreams for building a large 7ft monster tank... but I know that when I am more settled, I will revisit it... the important thing is that I saw the job in the room through, even though it took far too long...

I hope whoever is reading this is not too dissapointed in me for not managing to build the 300g tank... but hopefully it will make an interesting read still... (apologies for some of the crappy fuzzy pics, but my phones camera is a bit dodgy) :)

Also, if you interested, I did a phone camera video of the tank and room on youtube... here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhK9aL4YAZg

Dude, you've figured it out!!! How to talk your gf/wife into the monster tank idea! "Babe, can I have a HUGE fish tank?" - "NO!" - "What if I give you a beautiful garden too?" - "Really?! Sure then!" I salute you fine sir.

The "kids" look like they forgive u ...for now ........the longest trip begins with the first step
