fluval all the way! been keeping fish and tanks for what seems like a thousand years and been through so many filters.I love fluval it is the easiest to pop off and on and very quiet i can buy a ton of bio max and load the colum up to equal large canister filters. Also if you go on ebay type in 304/404 you can buy them between 65-80 bucks with free shipping! still scratching head as to why people think other canisters are better esp ehiem had about 10 of them and it felt like having a heart attack everytime i had to take the top off.xp's are all right, but still not that simple way of cleaning like fluval.magnums had those metal clips that break on alot of people including me.

I like my fluval 404. $85 on ebay, free shipping. Best deal for that size can IMO.

I have 2 magnum 350's and they have been problem free for 10+ years. I like being able to switch back and forth from a regualr filter to a polishing filter and then a no water loss vacumm when needed. I don't trhink the ones you have listed are as versatile as a mag 350.

I like fluval and rena but Ehiem is the all time winner. It depends on the tank and stock but for the price, Rena Filstar Xp series could win over Ehiem.

Rena XP3. I much preferred it to my Eheim 2217, which I sold and bought another rena.

the rena is more powerful, way easier to prime, and comes with two different output configurations (a spray bar or powerjet nozzle) and it also has built in quick disconnects (you just pull up one lever valve to isolate the whole filter), which you have to buy seperately with the eheim...

I have seen many tanks with bootleg canisters, performing well. Whatever canisters you use, I think is not so relevant. Sometimes you pay more for a good filter and end up with the bad apple. I myself have eheim, Rena, AC and a couple knock-offs.

Well I have 7 XP3s so I'll let you guess what I like.

My only experience with canister filters is Rena XP3 but I've owned two for over a year now and haven't had any problems with them.

Howdy,

You can also look HERE

There are 26 hits for Eheim, 6 for Rena, 10 for Fluval. That should tell you something ... ;)
