Beamswork LED's

No ticking sound from mine.

Been running BeamsWork led for over year and no problems what so ever. I have them on my 30 and 55 gallon.

That would be my luck. I bought this thing just over 3 months ago and just now using it. I only turned it on quick to see if it worked when it arrived. Is there even any warranty on these things? I can't seem to find any info on "BeamsWork" the company. In the mean time, I contacted the ebay seller but I am not expecting much. Otherwise it works perfectly fine. In fact the one I bought is way too bright. I kinda wish I had gotten the one with less LED's.

Does anyone elses Beamswork LED power supply make a constant ticking sound? I finally got my aquarium together and filled today and it's in my living room which is not very big, and the ticking is driving me insane. I am just curious if this is the norm with these things or if something is wrong with it. When the fan occasionally kicks on, it's quite loud.

I know exactly what you mean. Mine kept ticking and then the lights would flicker. Then my other set of lights had the same problem. This happened less than 1 year after I bought the lights.

I eventually had to buy a new power supply on Amazon. Now the lights work perfectly. These Beamwork lights are good but the power supply is defective on a lot of units.

Yeah the ebay seller basically told me to kick rocks and buy a new PS if I wanted for $45. I paid $135 for the entire light fixture. The manufacturer has no warranty and he offers only 30 day return at your expense. You get what you pay for as they say. I might just buy another whole unit for $100 with less LED's since I feel this one is too bright.

You don't need to buy a new fixture or any parts from that eBay seller. What you need is a cheap new AC power supply, doesn't need to be from Beamswork.

I bought this one from Amazon for $10 and now my lights work perfectly. http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-Cable-ACD477-Universal-Supply/dp/B000Z31G3M

I know it's a power supply problem because I have Beamswork lights bought from eBay and ones bought directly from Beams work. When the eBay ones had problems, I switched the power supply to the OEM ones and they worked.

I'd suggest anyone looking to buy these lights to avoid the eBay seller that people recommend (forgot his name) and buy them directly from Beamswork. Many of the eBay ones have a problem with the power supply. Happened to me twice already.

Interesting, so that small power adapter on Amazon will replace the entire larger PS unit? Does it screw right into the plug coming off the light fixture? If so, for $10 I will definitely buy it. Bonus is it's much smaller too. The ebay seller linked me to a Beamswork replacement he sells of course to get more money out of me.

The only reason I considered replacing the unit is because I bought the one with 280 LED's and it' so bright half my living room is glowing, not so much because of the PS issue. I should have bought the one with 168 LEDs. I didn't really know any better at the time. I might just cover up some of the LEDs actually and that will dim it down a bit.

You've gotta look up the specs on your old PS and match it to the one you're going to buy. So find one with the matching V, hz, AC, etc. So the one I posted above might not be the right one for your light setup.

I just bought me a 72" from ebay seller topdawg. I only tested it and looked great and bright. I should have read here and bought directly from beamswork

I just bought a 72" from topdogsellers as well and it's already on the tank. Several days in and no problems, no ticking; mine is 4th Gen don't know if it makes a difference. Hopefully yours will be trouble free too. Only issue is I was surprised the lights are imo white not the blue-white pictured in his ebay listing or like the other 10K lights I've had. It looks more along the 5000-6500K color temperature.

Just as an FYI, I realized my power supply only ticks when the power supply is switched on, but the lights are switched off. Once the lights are on, the ticking stops.
