I don't know the collection point.
Feb thru today, I've gone heater-less, so the temps ranged from high 60s into 70s winter and spring, now getting into the mid to upper 70s.
I believe that has allowed 12 beani to grow up in a 150 gal with minimal aggression.
The spawn has altered that a bit.

As you may know I had a pair come down with columnaris last summer when temps hit the upper 80s.
Because of that experience, I have avoided using a heater.
Acute columnaris seems to be on the rise these days, and I don't know if it is a result of, the excess use of antibiotics, or a recessive gene unleased by hybridization. I see that it is very common in flowerhorns, hence my suspected connection. But there I go ramblin again.

nice tip man... i may consider going heaterless more.
not to divert but i have a tank w/o heater for some tetras, and they are doing ok. i think temp is like 70? night time it gets cooler... i'm surprised they are doing well though!
nice beani :) they're definitely cool fish

Duanes, you have done an amazing job with the Beani's :) im really digging your setup and that male you have is a pimp! :) ill drink to that:) Good work, this has been an amazing thread!

I had an adult pair a year ago, and it seemed impossible, they could not be kept together.
I picked up the 12 beani I have now as juvies back in Feb this year, seems 3 pairs have formed so far. This is the 1st pair to spawn.
I've almost always found, starting with 6 or more young cichlids is the easiest and most sure way to get 1 or more compatible pairs.

This is the same thing I have noticed to over the years to get about 10-12 of any one species and they soon will form pairs if everything is right , like food and water quality. good Job

I decided to try a few of the other adult beani in a 50 gal to see if it made an aggression difference. Because in the 150 gal even with the spawn, but with lots of spots to hide, there has been chasing, but no death.
Within 3 days of putting 2 spawning color females and a male in the 50 gal, there is 1 dead female.
I guess in the beani world, size matters.
