Hey guys,

I've got a beani, just under a year old and pushing around 7-8 inches.

i have him in a 150 gallon tank with a couple fancy plecos, a 2 inch red devil and 4 bala sharks for dithers.

probably...3ish days ago he stopped eating and was pooping out white stuff. i thought maybe it was just fish that he was pooping out, because he killed a couple bala sharks and ate them. but its starting to worry me now.

i know these guys are susceptible to various diseases and am starting to think he might have a digestive infection??

i bought some API GENERAL CURE powder but am hesitant to use it at this point until i hear from some of you guys what you think is wrong. i dont want to start dosing and medicating for no reason

oh and btw, he is swimming around lots, and hasnt lost his coloring.

could he just be a little stressed out from the new addition of the bala sharks??

i have the temp cranked to like 86ish, and he isnt eating pellets, just barely eating mysis shrimp.
he looks 100% normal. just the whole white poop thing (which he has done before, but never stopped eating) and now isnt interested much in food.

i did a 25% water change on friday and was planning on doing another 30 or 40% tomorrow morning, then again on thursday and saturday. see if that doesnt help out.

now with bloat, wouldnt his scales be puffed out? or is that a later symptom?

Is his crap long and stringy as we'll as white can remember which ones but that can be a sign of parasites Do you feed him feeder fish ?

With bloat his scales will be puffed out when its starts to really progress early signs will be just looking fat for no reason and having some difficulty swimming

mostly long stringy and white, yes.

i dont feed him feeder fish, just NLS and MYSIS SYHRIMP.

i bought a bunch of bala sharks for dithers last week and he killed and ate a bunch of them. i didnt think he would be able to catch them, but apparently i was wrong.

ever since he went on his shark eating binge, he has been having the white poop.

ever since i got him at .75 inch, he has been really shy and hides alot and ever so often he swims up to the top of the tank and hangs up up near the trim for a bit then begins swimming again. so his swimming doesnt seem affected. and he is the normal thickness he normally is, which is why it leads me to think that he has some sort of parasite from eating all the bala sharks??

i got them from a big chain pet store...Big Al's...i dunno if you guys have that place in the states. but i normally dont buy fish from them because they arent well taken care of. but a boxing day sale of 2$ a bala, i couldnt pass up the chance to try it out and see if they would live in my tank. now its starting to look like i made a bad choice is trying it

sounds like the start of bloat. I just lost a juvenile to it. Treat him for bloat and divide the tank to keep im at ease

RD has a great treatment thread for this. But it sounds too late to me. When you noticed this the first time is wheb you should have treated, it would have been easier while he was still eating. Stop feeding for a couple days and treat accordingly to RD's thread. Mean while by some epsom salt and soak a couple pellets in 1 tblsp salt to 16oz of water. Then try to get him to eat pellets. Stop feeding mysis shrimp also. Good luck, definitely search for bloat related threads to find the one RD posted.

........which is why it leads me to think that he has some sort of parasite from eating all the bala sharks??

More than likely that is the cause. Not sure why you would add anything from BA's to your tank without a few weeks of quarantine, but now that you have I guess all you can do is go from there. Start by reading the following thread:
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?448533-Bloat-in-CA-SA-species

I read your post on AA, and just because your fish isn't "bloated" looking, doesn't mean that it isn't under attack from intestinal parasites. If it isn't eating I would treat the entire tank with the API General Cure (it's a "bloat" medication), which contains both metronidazole and praziquantal, and see what happens. Clout is another option, harsh stuff, but sometimes will work when nothing else will. Whatever those bala sharks had is now in your entire system, so you might as well treat the entire tank either way. So, you are already treating for bloat, and for now I would continue to do so as per the directions on your API box. To that I would also add epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) to your tank water which will also act as a purgitive agent.

Hopefully he responds to the treatment, and next time use a quarantine tank for a few weeks before you add anything from your LFS.
