Lately my beardies cage has been smelling horrible. I sift everyday and the sand in it is only about 1 1/2 months old. Does anyone have any suggestions to help get rid of the smell???

Change the sand, the liquid that comes out when they poop or pass urates seeps down into the sand and starts to smell foul after a while. Sifting doesn't remove that liquid or the soiled sand underneath, it only removes the solid stuff.

I agree. The same thing happens with my leopard geckos if I don't change their sand monthly. My Leo's go in the same spot, so I just scoop all the sand out of that area weekly where they poo. It really clears up the smell. I also change all the sand in the tank monthly as well. Doing that might sound costly to some but hey, I'm not cheap when it comes to my pets.

thats so cool about leos using one spot,i loved it,beardies will freakin go on each other if they are basking on top one another, they go all over.punks, still loved them though, lol.

Ive never had this problem, and I change sand like once a year.

I just scoop out the poop along with any sand that might have gotten dirty. Yeah, thats about it. I'm serious. lol It does get stinky eventually, thats when i change it. I dont have a cleaning schedule or anything though, but its generally once a year.

try twice a year thn you should have np lol

yeah so do i ! well every three weeks but chances of him going once a year to once a month is unlikely.
