Been a long project!! (lots of pics)

nice tank man how come you used an overflow when you could just run water straight outta the tank ?

The pond coat was simple to work with although anything it go on if you didn't get it off right away it was stuck, (my jeans) Putting my flowerhorn and hopefully one of my plecos in there. I should have gone through the bottom straight out of the tank, I was just worried that if it leaked then that was all the water comming out and this way if it ever gives away it's only a portion of the water. Wish I would have gone that route, next build!! Pictures were already posted up in the barn when I bought the house, haha...not really complaining though it's kinda cheesy!

ah right but since you have a hole in the side of the tank you should only really need a single pipe coming out of that overflow instead of all that extra pipe ? with the hole it would auto restart when the water level hit the hole unless im missing somthing

well i dont think so lol might wana double check just since you have a bulkhead fitting the water should just overflow when it hits that level into the filter if you get me.
the overflow is designed to restart when the water goes over the tank rim since gravity wont start it.
if you add a t to the bulkhead it will flow faster but might be louder.

so just to double check you just have a hole water flows out of right lol ?

yeah so if im right you can have it like the one on the right right . im just trying to be sure i have not destroyed your project

As of right now I have a siphon that was intended for in tank siphons. When I think about it I don't need that b/c of the point that you bring up, once the water level hits the hight of the tube it will free flow into the sump and should flow faster. Am I thinking right? I didn't quite understand your drawing either.

haha well the pic on the right the water has to go over the tank rim and higher than the water level,
so you need the syphon to restart the flow.
the one on the left the water just hits the hole and flows out.
so if you have just a hole there is no need for a syphon as it will restart when the water level hits it.

if you set it up like that your flow rate will be higher since you dont have all those 90 turns slowing the flow and if you have a t on the outlet the flow will also increase as the water can pull air in aswell from the open end.
