you can keep many different varities of fish with oscars... countless number of other cichlids and catfish, rays, predators, etc... the possibilities are endless. your complaint was getting the right food to each fish and that is not an issue. most fish are omnivores and will eat anything without suffering adverse effects. oscars are nice fish but I dont want you to think that you are limited in your selection especially with a tank that size. there are just so many options to keep with oscars...

i have a 6x2x2 180g tank and have been told by a couple of people that it will only house 2 oscars at most. i wanted a couple more but dont know now and il be a bit :irked: if i can only keep 2 in here

Two Osacs will definatley thrive in a tank like that.....You can add 1 more, but two is a perfect heaven, especially if they are williung to breed, you(they) got it made...Leave it bare bottom or go for Home Depot pea gravel($2.99 for 25lbs)...Place two slabs of flate rock, called slate, on opposite sides of the tank...O's love to lay eggs on slate.....No plants, they will ripthem out of the ground......Toss in a giant flowering pot for cave cover(and decoration)........

agree 100%, starting with the small group to get a breeding pair is great idea and O's for the most part are really laid back, who knows you may get a group that gets along really well and you may be able to keep 4 without aggression but i think the tank would look awesome if you grew them up to get a pair, and put in some nice severums to get to pair up as well, the two pairs in that tank should get along just fine and would be great colors and laid back personalities, and if your up for ordering online you can find some great severum variants. some efasciatus variants are just breathtaking IMO

You can always get say 4-6 young Oscars and watch and see as they grow if you can keep them and with 6 you may end up with 2 bullies and you can find another home for them and still be left with 4 like you'd like. Apparently I've always been lucky with Oscars I've been keeping them for over 20 years I had 3 that lived happily together for over 10 years and I had another 3 that were getting along great for 2 years and I had to get ride of them before I moved from Chicago to Louisville. Now I have 2 that get along great too and never fight with each other. To me there should be no problems with keeping 4 Oscars in a 180 pending they don't fight, your filtration seems to be plenty for 4 Oscars too.

im guessing a 180G will be a display tank? to get the 'display-show' out of Oscars, i would say go with 1 albino, 1 very dark Tiger (black and white contrast), do a natural decoration then toss in schooling..

Ive got 30 Africans(between 2" and 6"), two plecos(13"and 12"),a 6"botia, a 6" toadfish all in with a very grumpy 14" Oscar in my 210g. I cant imagine another pain in the a_ _ Oscar in there. The only reason this fish doesnt get given away is his personality...but it needs to be a loner. BTW, it doesnt bother any fish(cant catch them) accept my 13"sailfin...they grew up together since they were both 1".

the tank is already set-up, black and white gravel, a couple of large pieces of drift wood, it was set-up for my goldfish so i just removed all the plants and left it as it was.

i was hoping for a tiger oscar, an abino tiger oscar and a green oscar (if i could find one) but im not too fussy really. i love the shovelnose catfish, but they grow too large for my tank IMO. i was considering a sailfin pleco though.

i will be off in hot persuit of a couple more young O's tomorrow after my husband has finished work.

i will look at the severums, i like them but i havent really looked into them.
