For some reason I think my fish are unhappy with a bare bottom. They'll constantly swim with there mouth dragging on the bottom of the tank. I'm assuming its from them seeing there reflection.
yeah ive noticed this too. i have sand right now, and some fish created a bald spot in the middle. everytime a fish swims over it, theyll stop and stare down at the bald spot, looking at their reflection.

most fish will get used to BB after a few days though

before looks so much better its not even funny, why would you remove the background exposing all the hoses, cords, and other things that no one likes to look at? As for the fish looking "down", well they probably dont understand why they seem to be floating in mid-air and are intrigued by whats under them and why they no longer have a bottom to the tank.

Another vote for before.
With substrate, the lighting also looks much better.
I had BB for a while and even with strong current on the bottom every spec of poop or whatever else was visible and it drove me nuts.

I like the before.......But you can change that if you add a back ground to the after.

I think the general vote is before was better. But tank maintenance is so much easier. Also for some reason, since bare bottom, the waste buildup in tank has reduced by at least 75% . shouldni make amy drastic changes, I'll be sure to post.

maybe put it back the way it was and add some driftwood and stuff if you want change because no offence but BB looks crap
