Blood Parrot cichlids are pretty passive but they are easy take care of, they shouldn't have any problems with smaller bichirs.

So I found out the dimensions. 6x1.5x2. So a lil smaller. I dont know how to convert size to gallons, but still big either way.

So far, I am leaning towards a datnoid and a bichir for sure. I really like some of the suggested cichlids, like the Midas and JD. Any thoughts on how well these guys would do together? I would probably buy them all young and grow em out together, heard that was a good way to do it. Also, if I wanted a bottom dweller cleaning type, any suggestions? I know theres a billion types of pleco lol, but my bf told me I should ask.

Unless you liek PLecos and want one.. dont get one ot "clean" your tank.. its compleate BS. while most plecos will eat algae and save you some extra work they also produce alot of waste so must be factored into your bio-load, meaning less fish you can keep. Dats grow very slow, as for bichir ide look for the mid sized species. a delhelzi would be fairly easy to find, an not get to big overall. imo a dat will eventually outgrow your tank.. but it will take many years before doing so.

be careful not to overstock... even the smallest of monster fish can and often do grow to full size within' a year. In that size tank I wouldnt mix large cichlids with much else. imo an Oscar or other larger species would be very hapy by itsel;f or maybe witha Del. thats about it. Part of keeping large fish is working with their huge bio-loads... mixing to many lareg fish imo is more challengeing then the hardest species to keep... keeping your water perameters perfect or as close as you can is what makes or breaks you.

Thanks for the input. Scratching pleco off the list for sure.

I'm only planning on 5 fish total. So far my list contains the dat, birchir and MAYBE 2-3 cichlids. I am leaning towards a chocolate, gold severum, and MAYBE a ebjd. IF that would work anyway. A lot of it will be trial ands error, I'm sure. I'm trying ti find compatible fish, and I spend HOURS on this site researching. I never knew that there were more than one type of cichlids until I found this. Yes, total newb, hence all the research and planning.

What type of dat? Just curious. I'd want one for my tank. Also for EBJD, there very hard to get to adulthood(in my cases) because they sometimes hit 3" and just die. Also they have and incredible slow growth rate.

I would do a small indo dat, Im sure theres some floating around at 1"-3" that are cheap, I remember a bloom a few months ago where they were everywhere. Anyways, then I would do 3 or so lower-jaw species of poly, delhizi, sen, moke, palmas, etc. And with this you could probably d, a pair of one of the cichlid species you mentioned above, EBJD is nice cause if yours breed, the fry are worth quite a lot. Ive never had one but I've seen many say they are very fragile, so be careful about this.

You could do a silver dat, small dat type, not as pretty, but got a personality of their own, and cheaper. And then you could do your bichirs. But if you want a bottom dwelling "cleaner" fish, you could do a catfish species. They won't waste or nothing, but bichirs from what I seen can be messy eaters. Do pictus or something like that on the bottom. Or even Bullhead.
