Well you HAD a female. It looks like there was something wrong with that fish and the coloring you saw at the back half was probably the same color we see, which is definately NOT normal.

These are livebearers so the male has the modified anal fin that looks to be HUGE even for the larger females. (I'm NOT JEALOUS).

The best way to house them is to have at least 2 females to one male. I have a breeding pair but have always miss-timed when she is going to drop the babies.

They like still waters, but seem to require high oxygen lvls. Mine are in my brackish grow-out tank. I also keep Sailfin mollies and guppies in that tank. Currently I have some .75 scats and they are enough to terrorize these fish, so you definately don't want aggressive fish in with these.

Other than that, I keep live guppies and other feeders in the tank with them because it's nothing worse than waking up to see that she swallowed one of your gravid sailfin mollies. (Although they are chickens for my brackish tank.)

All in all, they seem to stay skittish but are easy fish to keep. Get more and enjoy them.
