I didn't know where else to put this, so, okays.

What, in your opinion, is the best kind of "monster" fish for a person who wants to join the fish keeping community? I'm sure you have an idea of what a monster fish is, but my definition for one is a fish that does not resemble the creature you think of when you think of a home aquarium, like tetras or guppies.

Can you help me decide? I'm looking for something that doesn't take up a terrible amount of space, isn't difficult to take care of, and is interesting to observe. Thanks. =)

If you have the space I would go with an Oscar. Pretty, hardy, with lots of personality. The long-finned Oscars are also very nice!

I think Jack Dempseys, Green Terrors, Salvini's, and Oscars are all great choices for a first time. O's just need a bit more room than the others.

You could probably get away with a 29 gallon for a convict pair. A little larger tank would be better.
