best bichir for a 55 gallon tank

i always put WAY more filtration on my tanks than needed b/c i never know when im gonna have to leave state for a week and miss the water change and the wife will not put her hand in my tank let alone clean it lol. This being said the only reason i even thought of putting silver dollars in was b/c the wife thinks the bichirs are ugly do you really think i could put four in a 55 gallon ? and in your guys experience what would the rate of growth for these guys be being fed on guppies lol. I cant thank you guys enough i was having a bit of trouble finding the info i was looking for on these fish and you guys helped me out thanks a ton
 
Depending on the feeding rate.. bichirs would grow a gd 2'' in a month.. mayb more.. my endi grew from a 3'' little fella to a thick 9'' in jus 7weeks.. also due to the fact i have been stuffing him with food daily.. anda variety of foods best.. Enjoy ur new bichir my fren.. :popcorn:
 
yea i would do 4 an myself guppies would be a treat i would try hikari massivore. 1 pellet equals the calories of 1.8 goldfish so its really better then feeders if you can help it.
 
Bichirs are slow growers. Which if you get the SD,is a good thing. SD grow fast,and eat like pigs.

If you just get regular ol' SD,you could have 4 to 6 without any problems. They don't get too big,around 6"

You can feed the bichirs,and the SD will eat it too,shrimp pellets,massivore,beef heart,sinking cichlid pellets work too. I would give them the guppies as treats once or twice a week.
 
beefheart tho should make em grow a lil faster.
 
well ill post pics of my fish and tank as i get them in this thread right now i am undecided on what to do i want 4 bichir in there but the wife says that cant be the only fish in the tank so we will see who wins out on the end lol :hitting:

yeah ive taught her too much over the years lol.

That being said ive never looked into buying silver dollars anyone know about how much they run. And my wife is the one buying me the new tank for my birthday i suppose i should throw in some sd's to keep here happy lol ;)
