Best Bio filtration media?

I have not done any specific tests on it, but I do believe that it works better than the standard pre/post ceramic rings that I was using from Fluval.

I would be interesting for someone (who knows a lot more about water chemistry than I), to do some independent testing on it :)
 
duanes, do you have further detail of the clear tube/lava rock tower filter? Currently planning a big build now that I have a house. Was going to do a trickle sump, but if I can do a tower like this on the exit possibly.....Just bouncing ideas at the moment, and more knowledge can't hurt. I was going to quote it, but the site spam rules won't permit.
