Best Cichlid for 55 gallon?

+how do bichirs catch feeder fish? they look kinda slow to me

Not a SA/CA cichlid but a paratilapia polleni would be great for a 55g tank. Real glass banger that won't get too big. From madagascar has water requirements similar to SA/CA

If you want a wet pet like an Oscar, jds don't fit the bill. Most have really dull personalities. Oscars get too big for a 55. Period. Even females. You could be ok for about a year. Thats about it.
If it were me I'd get a pair of Honduran red points. They are more colorful than convicts, stay a little smaller, so they will be very happy in a 55, and you will have a tank that has a much more natural feel. Trust me of you cram a 14" fish in a 13" wide tank, neither you or the fish will be happy. If you get a fish that stays under 8" you will be much better off! Go out and research and come back with what you like and we will help you out!

No trace!!! Everyone is giving such great advice.. why do you have to come and ruin all the poor fishkeeping responses that these folks are handing out. You know, your facts and reason are so spot on I honestly don't think you belong in this thread. Please take your very accurate depictions and obviously experianced opinions elsewhere. ;)

can someone explain to me what a glass banger is and the significance of it? is it just a fish that hits the glass..
