Best color cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They're the same fish, he's just getting bigger, brighter in the second one. From what I've read your female and my male are variants from costa rica. The ones from Nicaragua have more of a green face like my 2 females.

Oh wow, his head really rounded out...I love how it kinda looks like a whale (resembles a Balzani)...

Ya, the only males I have seen then are from Nicaragua...Didn't have any blue like yours.

There are hundreds and hundreds to choose from, it's really hard to narrow it down. I'd definitely say one of my favorites is the Firemouth though. They're most commonly seen faded to hell at fish shops, and max out at 3" because they're thrown in Oscar tanks. Not to mention bad genes from in-breeding. But, a good genetic adult firemouth is a really good looking fish with some great color:

My firemouth all grown up they get great colors when well taken care of. Every color of the rainbow can be found on these fish. These two were born in this tank.

Most people just notice the red in the throat but check out the red in the fins and the yellow in the tail and above the eyes. Also the blue under the eyes. the sides shine greens blues yellow and purples when the light hits them.
